Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionOn this trip we take the overnight ferry from Crete to Athens to reduce the amount of flying needed for this vacation. One of the cookery lessons is a vegan experience to learn about Greek dishes with a plant-based twist, and a digital cookery book to take away. We have chosen to base part of this trip in Poros, which is set to become next Greek green island with emphasis to circular economy, productions of renewable energy and electric public transport.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.
Environment and Wildlife
We visit families who have for generations farmed the land and learn from them about the produce they make, honey, ouzo, yogurt or whatever it is and eat only local seasonal produce. The honey producer we visit will teach us about sustainable hive management and the included lunch we have there is vegetarian and all organic produce.
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
People
Local EconomyOn this trip we visit numerous local suppliers and therefore contribute directly to the local economy. we eat in small family run tavernas and eat locally produced seasonal food. we spend one evening in a traditional Greek evening with Rick and Katerina in Askeli, just a short 5-minute walk from the hotel. This evening will be filled with local hospitality, delicious food, and the opportunity to experience authentic Greek culture in a relaxed and intimate setting.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travelers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
This trip is partly suitable for people with limited mobility, but they need to be accompanied by another person. Visits to all archaeological sites may not be possible this depends on the level of limited mobility. The trip is LGBTQ+ friendly.
We estimate that 90 % of persons employed by our providers are locals. And even remaining 10 % are immigrants who has settled and living in Greece permanently. In Greece there is minimum wage legislation, and it is against the law to pay less, so we expect all our partners to pay at least the minimum wage. Due to lack of employees wages are usually higher than minimum.
We believe that diversity is to be celebrated and as a Certified B Corp we're committed to championing equity and inclusion throughout our entire supply chain. We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
