Description of Botswana luxury wildlife & bird watching tour
This trip can be tailor made throughout the year to suit your requirements
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe are committed to responsible values, which are echoed in all elements of our tours and vacations. We work with accommodation providers and local suppliers who share this dedication to responsible travel by focusing on environmental, conservation and community initiatives.
For example, this Botswana Wildlife & Bird Watching Tour vacation features eco-friendly accommodation, such as San Camp, which runs entirely on solar power with the aim to have a minimal footprint; running all activities with the environment and local community in mind, particularly the local bushmen. San Camp is owned by the Natural Selection group, which supports the Makgadikgadi-Nxai Pans Conservation Initiative – an initiative that works to improve conditions for mammal migration in the region, using sustainable economic incentives for wildlife-friendly land.
You will visit several national parks and reserves on this itinerary. In our detailed pre-departure travel pack we have included a note to remind you not leave any litter in the national parks and reserves – everything you carry in, you must carry out. Aside from the environmental damage, litter can be harmful to the wildlife.
PeopleDuring your time in Botswana we encourage you to support the local economy by buying authentic handmade products such as cotton fabrics, wood carvings, pottery and silver jewellery at markets, villages and small-scale souvenir shops, rather than hotel tourist shops or on organised shopping trips. When you buy products at markets, villages and small-scale souvenir shops you are helping to support a fragile economy and supporting local artisans helps keep traditional crafts alive.
We encourage you to support the Pack for a Purpose initiative and use a small amount of space in your luggage to pack supplies for local community projects in Botswana. You can leave your donations with our partner hotels and lodges who will pass them on to the school, medical center or animal welfare project.
Jacana Camp is also partnered with pack for a Purpose through the Wilderness Safaris group, which runs an environmental and life skills education program called Children in the Wilderness. The program hosts rural children living alongside Africa’s Parks and Reserves, teaching them the importance of conservation and inspiring them to care for their natural heritage so they become custodians of these areas in the future. CITW helps build and strengthen these children’s capabilities to cope with life’s challenges and develops their life skills to realise their greatest potential. Jacana Camp won a PURE Award for Community Engagement in 2015.
