Reviews
1 Reviews of Turkey cycling vacation
4 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 28 May 2023 by Joanna Donkin
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Enjoying the enormous variety of wild flowers and vegetation. I didn’t know that Turkey has by far the highest number of varieties of species
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Check that you are happy with the cycling level. I found that the ascent number didn’t describe the steepness of the hills.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Friendly welcoming people, great group and good weather = very enjoyable
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
This trip travels by bike along Turkey’s turquoise coast. Cycling is not only a low impact way to travel but it takes us to hard to visit places and small villages such as Sutlegen which feel a million miles away from the main tourist centers along the coast. The support vehicle carries large water containers making it easy for passengers to refill their own water bottles, discouraging the need for single use plastic bottles.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
People
The village house stay on this trip is a fantastic way to really experience beautiful rural Turkey, to try amazing freshly produced and traditional food and to meet the local families that live in this region. We visit small tea houses to enjoy an apple or mint tea amongst the chatter of the locals and the tour leader encourages the group the eat in Turkish restaurants to savour locally sourced food and recipes.
All our leaders in Turkey are local so they can give a real insight into the culture and history of this fascinating country. We eat in small, locally owned restaurants which helps provides direct employment to these small businesses and ensures that money stays within the communities that we visit.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
