Travel guides

Italy cycling
It doesn’t have to be hills, hills and more hills; our guide shows that there’s plenty of terrain to suit all comers.
Sicily
Italy's evocative island is a sun-baked and seductive site, rough around the edges, with a rugged volcano at its heart.

Vacation information

Traveling by train:
We offer the possibility of traveling by train to and from the UK for this trip and can book this for you if required. Please inquire for further details.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Group size:
Having no minimum number means that groups sizes can be small and therefore the trips have less impact on the environment.

Activity:
Cycling has minimal impact on the environment as you provide most of the energy yourself and, when you’re cycling from village to village, you can enjoy a relationship with locals in a way motorists passing through never can. You get off the beaten track, and you’ll find that people treat you as a visitor rather than a tourist. Also, by cycling independently, and not having to worry about keeping up with a group, you set the pace so you can soak up the sights, sounds and scents of your surrounds and really get under the skin of the place you’re visiting.

We proactively encourage our clients to think about traveling responsibly too: packing light, saving water, buying locally, re-cycling all maps and route notes at the end of their trip as well as to be mindful of not leaving any rubbish behind.

UK Office:
We are well aware of the impact tourism has at home and abroad, and we make every effort to balance the environmental impact of traveling with the immense benefits sustainable tourism can bring to destinations and the people who live there. So we start in the office: we turn off all electrical equipment every night; we use energy-efficient bulbs; we measure print and paper consumption, and re-cycle wherever possible; we print our brochures on paper from sustainable sources, and send them out in bio-degradable packaging.

People

Leaders & local suppliers:
This 8-night, self-guided cycling vacation provides a wonderful introduction to Sicily's south-east, a part of the island renowned for its beautiful, unspoilt coastline, spectacular Baroque architecture and sumptuous regional cuisine. Your journey takes you along a mix of inland and coastal routes, starting amidst the Baroque splendour of Ragusa and Modica and ending in stunning Siracusa on the east coast. You'll stay in a wonderful mix of accommodation including a lovingly restored, hillside masseria surrounded by olive trees and a charming villa hotel boasting fabulous views over Noto from its outdoor pool terrace and a minimalist design hotel in the center of bustling Portopalo. Given the wonderful local cuisine on offer, including such Sicilian specialities as Pasta alla Norma and Pasta con le Sarde, we've included four evening meals on this vacation, leaving you free to dine out on the remaining nights. As with all our vacations, we encourage visitors to buy from independently-run shops & establishments where possible, supporting the local people and their families.
