Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Established in 2017, Small Change is INTRO Travel's responsible travel initiative, focused on supporting local communities, environmental practices, cultural exchange and education, and animal welfare.Throughout your Bali adventure, you'll experience a variety of Small Change initiatives that support local communities and encourage responsible travel practices. These include learning about traditional Balinese customs, supporting local family businesses, visiting conservation focused experiences, and making practical choices to help reduce waste while traveling.
Beach clean ups are a regular part of many of our trips, and travelers are encouraged to take part where opportunities arise. Groups visiting Gili Trawangan on a Friday also have the option to join the Gili Eco Trust beach clean up initiative.
To help reduce the use of single use plastic bottles, refill stations are available at most of our overnight accommodation and many activity locations. Travelers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, and reusable INTRO bottles are available to purchase for those who need one.
As part of our Small Change initiative, we support a range of environmental and community focused projects. In 2019, we partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to plant 10 trees for every booking received. Since late 2023, we have also worked with Path Net Zero to measure the emissions associated with our tours and with Veritree to support verified tree planting projects.
People
We ensure that every trip we run has a direct and positive impact on the local communities we visit. This means that your money is being used to support the local economy, and going direct to those who need it most. Every one of our trips includes a variety of #smallchanges that you’ll get to experience first hand.As opposed to being a cultural observer, our trips are designed to help you understand and respect local cultures, traditions and ways of life. Through sharing knowledge and understanding, we ensure that your travels are mutually beneficial for both you, and those you are visiting.
During your time in Bali you’ll experience authentic cultural exchanges including learning Bahasa phrases, making traditional Canang Sari offerings, visiting local family homes, exploring rice fields with local guides dedicated to preserving Bali’s farming heritage, and supporting independent local businesses along the way. You’ll also take part in experiences designed to respectfully showcase local wildlife and conservation, including dolphin spotting and visits to the Sacred Monkey Forest.
Our local crew and guides are the backbone of our operations and a very special part of our family. Several times a year we offer the opportunity for one or more of our local guides to travel to another one of our destinations or choose an experience they may not normally get to do, courtesy of and with love from us.
