CARBON REDUCTION

Our camp is all about caring for our planet in meaningful ways. We have embraced eco-friendly practices using solar power to fuel our properties. With solar power systems at the helm, we're illuminating our spaces while treading gently on the Earth.

Moreover, our camps and lodges are designed to leave only a small carbon footprint, blending harmoniously with natural features and landscapes. We collect and store rainwater, use gentle biodegradable cleaning products, and toxic waste is disposed of responsibly, while glass and plastic are recycled regularly. We've also bid farewell to plastic bottles, opting for eco-friendly metal alternatives.

Trees hold incredible power in fighting climate change. They absorb and store carbon dioxide, a key player in reducing the carbon emissions that drive global warming. Through our seedballs eco-project, guests can actively participate in the restoration of degraded areas by simply tossing seedballs into the soil. Encased in a fertile charcoal crust, these seeds sprout into indigenous trees and shrubs, breathing life into the land once more.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We're deeply committed to preserving our environment and safeguarding wildlife. Every guest staying at one of our properties pays a conservancy fee. All these monies earned through the conservancy fees are paid back to the conservancies meaning the local communities can earn directly from accommodation and product. The money collected from the conservancies also goes into protecting the wildlife and the ecosystems, and the communities can see the benefits of ensuring the wildlife remains safe so as to attract tourism.

In 2019, our contributions reached a remarkable milestone, generating a total income of US$1.1 million for communities. This invaluable support encompasses US$650,000 in conservation fees and US$450,000 in salaries across four conservancies. These funds preserve and protect 83,500 acres in the Masai Mara and an expansive 931,000 acres in Samburu.

Experience cultural immersion by engaging in authentic village life. 'Meet the Neighbours' lets you delve into Samburu traditions and environmental dedication, fostering delightful exchanges. Nearby, another camp unveils the 'Singing Wells' tradition, where pastoralists serenade water sources vital to their animals. In the Masai Mara, Thursdays reveal the Maasai's adaptability through a vibrant market, transcending goods to embrace trade and tradition.
Participating in these cultural experiences boosts the local economy, as entry fees directly benefit communities. It's not just observation; it's contributing to those who open their hearts and homes to share their stories

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Our commitment to community shines through our team, as 85% to 90% of our staff are from the Maasai and Samburu communities. We provide and sponsor training and growth opportunities, ensuring that our positive influence directly benefits those who call this land home.
We're champions of Maasai youth, sponsoring training at the Koiyaki Guiding School to keep them at the forefront of conservation and safari guiding. Adding to this empowerment, two of our lodges are led by remarkable women. Cecelia Rono, the first Maasai female lodge manager at our Mara camp, and Nicole Nanetoi, the first Samburu female lodge manager at our Samburu camp, exemplify growth by ascending from diverse roles to leadership.
