CARBON REDUCTION

The safari camps that we have chosen for this trip all use solar for their power. Back up generators are in place just in case. The first section of this trip in the Maseke Balule Game Reserve is a mobile camp with a very low carbon footprint. Light is created using solar and rechargeable torches for evenings in camp.
This trip is focussed on being out in beautiful wilderness areas on foot, using homan effort to power our safaris. There is a support vehicle that helps to move the camp while you are out walking.
We provide carbon calculations for every trip we create, providing you with the tools to make informed decisions on carbon and how to reduce your impact. All meals can be vegan or vegetarian, providing a lower carbon choice.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The first safari on this trip is located in the Maseke Balule Game Reserve, sharing an unfenced border into the Greater Kruger Area. The Game Reserve used to be private land, but it is now used for wildlife conservation with all funds generated from tourism and guest arrivals. This has added over 40,000 hectares of conservation land to the Kruger. All guests pay a reserve fee which contributes to anti-poaching, conservation and reserve management.
We donate 30% of profits to projects that support communities and conservation. One local organisation that will benefit from guests traveling is Wild Shots Outreach which connects, inspires and uplifts young Africans through wildlife photography. The organisation engages disadvantaged young Africans in wildlife and conservation through photography.
In the Pafuri section, you will explore the Makuleke Contractual Park, this is a conservation area run by the Makuleke community, on the borders of Kruger National Park.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

The camps in the Pafuri section of this trip are owned in partnership with the Makuleke Community. The ownership is 100% South Africa with all onsite managers from the local Makuleke community. The safari camps here provide training, employment and support for community members interested in a career in travel.
The story of this area bordering the Kruger is historically important. During the apartheid years the community was removed from the land. After democracy the community successfully petitioned the government to reclaim their land. The Makuleke decided to dedicate their land to wildlife conservation and went in to partnership with a local safari operator.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Over 95% of staff on the ground are from South Africa. Many of which have come from disadvantaged positions but have carved our opportunities in the travel industry. The camps in the Pafuri operate social impact projects to offer funding to local entrepreneurs.
