We operate this tour with a maximum group size of 18 travelers to minimize our impact on the culture and the environment where we visit.
Our guides help guests to view the wildlife in a responsible way (i.e. keeping minimum distances, not using camera flashes and not disturbing the animals).

Carbon Reduction:
Accommodations on our trip use renewable energy and take steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

To reduce carbon emissions, we use human-powered transport during some of our activities. This includes a walking tour on Day 2 through Arequipa and a hike on Day 8 through Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). We also drive through Peru to the land border of Bolivia, rather than flying.

We stay in lodges that are owned and operated by locals and that specialize in minimizing their environmental footprint, using sustainable materials where possible and maintaining eco-friendly practices to respect the nearby wildlife areas.

Environment and Wildlife:
During this tour, we visit Aguada Blanca National Reserve, home to wildlife like guanaco, puma, and vicuņa. This is a protected area that safeguards the local flora and fauna as well as the crucial habitats for vicuņa and other wildlife. We also visit Colca Canyon to witness Andean Condors soar over the canyon where we implement our Responsible Wildlife Viewing practices, in which guests can observe animals in their natural environment from a suitable distance without interrupting their natural behaviors or disturbing their routines.

People

Local Economy:
We only employ local guides for our tours. Meals on our trip are prepared by
local chefs or communities who use locally sourced food that is in season, showcasing traditional and regional recipes.

The few souvenir opportunities that are presented throughout the trip will be stops at local and native craft markets, where you can often buy directly from the artisans.

The main tour guide of this tour is a local Peruvian native who has been guiding in the area for more than 20 years.

We employ local, Peruvian and Bolivian guides to join us on our excursions, whose deep knowledge and connection to the region enrich guests' experiences throughout this adventure. We also visit Taquile Island and meet Quechua-speaking locals, where we have an opportunity to purchase their traditional textile art and eat a traditional lunch prepared by the community.
