Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTIONWe want our customers to enjoy an experience-led vacation within a natural environment. To achieve this, we work with partners and suppliers who are true guardians of their surroundings. This means they actively protect the environment they operate in, while also encouraging local employment and generating income for surrounding communities.
Maji Moto Eco Camp is fully community-owned and operates using solar energy, eco-friendly waste systems, and traditional Maasai building methods. Basecamp Masai Mara focuses on low-impact tourism through solar power, rainwater harvesting, waste reduction, and strict environmental management. The camp also supports tree-planting programs and works closely with local Maasai communities through employment, education sponsorships, and conservation awareness projects. Food is largely sourced from local farmers, reducing food miles and supporting the regional economy.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
While in Nairobi, visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage directly support the rescue, rehabilitation, and reintegration of orphaned elephants back into the wild. Visitor contributions help fund veterinary care, food, and long-term conservation programs that protect elephant populations across Kenya.
In the Maasai Mara region, staying at Maji Moto Eco Camp and Basecamp Masai Mara allows guests to experience wildlife conservation alongside strong community involvement. Income from tourism directly supports local families, education, and healthcare initiatives.
Throughout the journey, guests are encouraged to bring and use reusable water bottles, with refill stations available at partner camps. We actively promote reducing single-use plastics and minimizing waste wherever possible during the trip.
National Parks and conservancies form an essential part of this itinerary, with all park and conservancy fees going directly toward wildlife protection, anti-poaching efforts, habitat conservation, and the maintenance of ecosystems that support both flora and fauna as well as local livelihoods.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYWe align ourselves with partners who actively work with local communities, whether through employing local people, supporting community-led conservation projects, or providing education that encourages long-term environmental stewardship.
At Maji Moto Eco Camp, the camp is fully owned and operated by the local Maasai community, ensuring that tourism revenue goes directly back to local families. Community members are employed across all areas of the camp, and guests have opportunities to learn about Maasai culture, traditions, and conservation practices directly from local hosts, creating meaningful cultural exchange and sustainable income.
At Basecamp Masai Mara, the majority of staff and guides are recruited from surrounding communities, providing stable employment and professional training. The camp also supports education initiatives, women’s empowerment programs, and conservation awareness projects within the local area, while offering guests opportunities to engage with local culture and community activities.
In Nairobi, visits to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Orphanage also support local conservation employment, including animal keepers, veterinarians, and community outreach teams who work with surrounding communities to reduce human–wildlife conflict and promote wildlife protection.
