Planet
Carbon ReductionThis trip aims to use minimal transport and much on the trip is human-powered and we will be exploring the amazing Atlas Mountains on foot. We use small, locally owned accommodation rather than large hotels, and we move in smaller groups, which helps reduce our environmental impact as well having a greater influence on our supply chain.
Vegetarian and vegan food can be included on this trip, we simply need to know at time of booking, and we can ensure our customers are catered for. We include meals while trekking on this trip, and often these will be picnics. Our leaders and the accommodation staff will be purchasing local, seasonal food along the way, which is not inly delicious but means the food doesn’t travel far and we can support the local economy in the more rural areas we visit.
Our new 8% carbon intensity reduction target by 2030 covers the full lifecycle of travel – including flights booked directly by customers to get to and from their trips. This means by 2030, the average emissions per trip will be 8% lower than today. This approach centers on immediate, operational emission reductions — prioritising tangible, internal changes over distant ambitions.
Environment and Wildlife
It is essential that we leave as little trace as possible while trekking, this means waste is taken with us, so we do not pollute the environment or impact the local wildlife. We brief all customers on how to reduce their environmental impact in Morocco, including providing customers with reusable bags and drinking water.
We support the High Atlas Foundation, a Youth Conservation Corps. For six months, eight young women come together to learn how to heal the land that raised them. Through environmental training, sustainable farming, and community leadership, they won’t just grow crops - they’ll grow roots of change.
People
Local EconomyWe don’t just pass through towns and villages, we stay withing them, ensuring we use locally owned accommodation wherever possible. If we have to stay outside a village, we ensure we support the local economy by shopping or eating locally.
In Imlil the group enjoy two home cooked meals with local families in the village, as well as a bread-making demonstration. The group will dine at the renowned El Fassia Restaurant – since its opening in 1987, this iconic city restaurant dedicated itself to employing and training local women only.
We include visits to souks and markets, as well as artisan craftspeople to support local trades. This includes a visit to a local silver cooperative in Essaouira, to rug workshops and spice merchants in Marrakech.
This trip is supported by local guides and hosts in addition to the local tour leader who is with the group throughout. Local guides add local expertise and insight into the communities we visit, and we can further support the local communities through their skills.
Employment, inclusivity and diversity
Since 2018 we have been certified as a B Corp. Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Unlike other certifications for businesses, B Lab is unique in our ability to measure a company’s entire social and environmental impact.
