Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Zambia and Malawi tailor made safaris

Livingstone - The Mosi Ao Tunya National Park is the smallest in Zambia but there is a good concentration of game, including a conservation project for some of Zambia's last remaining black rhino.

South Luangwa - One of the lodges has recently instigated a carbon offsetting scheme, where a tree is planted for any guests who stay with them through us. In addition, each of the operators conduct extensive work in wildlife conservation and anti-poaching schemes.

Lake Malawi - On the southern lakeshore, where many excellent lodges are based, Cape Maclear has been made a national park to protect all aquatic life in the area.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

Without doubt the visit to the game reserve at South Luangwa Park in Zambia, but the whole experience over the two weeks was fantastic - relaxing, exciting, enjoyable, and very different.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

If you go to Malawi, take a Visa card - not Mastercard (as recommended by our bank!)

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I would think there had been some benefit to local people, and that the presence of overseas tourists will go some way towards supporting conservation projects in the area.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

In all respects it exceeded our expectations - I cannot imagine a better vacation.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

All days and trip were memorable, but above all watching elephants crossing the river 30 metres away from us having lunch in Old Mondoro.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

1. I'd check the daily planning of the activities. Given the winter climate, the scheduling for the days was perhaps too relaxing, with a very long pause from 11.00/11.30 to 15.30/16.00 depending on the camp.

2. Definitely GO to Lower Zambesi: in any brochure or Web Sites is presented ad a second choise vs. South Luangwa, but it's a "can't miss" location

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?

Yes.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

We are definitely satisfied.
