I do not feel that we reduced environmental impact or supported conservation at all. All the local people that we invited to take part in the photo shoots were offered payment although I do not feel that this was making any sustainable change.

Hard to choose a single aspect of a fantastic vacation, but probably the elephants would edge it. The cycle ride in Mandalay was really cool too. Fantastic experience, the memory bank is maxed out and the euphoria will linger on for a long time.

This country is simply gorgeous... You feel suspended between legend and reality! The locals are special people, always ready to welcome you with a smile. It's still a country unknown to the big tourism, but I hope more and more people will decide to discover this amazing country.

There was a huge amount of memorable and exciting parts of this trip, however hot air ballooning over Bagan's ancient temples at sunrise had to be one of the most special memories.
Tips?
Bring large denomination US dollars - this might seem counter intuitive for a country such as this, but you get a better exchange rate. Plus make sure the bills are all pristine; their own money is pretty ragged, but dollars need to have no creases or folds, otherwise some places... (more)Faye Turner

Coming across by chance a house warming and monk blessing in village house on an island near Bagan. We were invited into the upstairs room for the ceremony and then back to join them for the celebratory lunch afterwards.
Tips?
Look into the wide variety of options for sight seeing and experiences away from the main tourist route. It's all very safe; extremely interesting and the people are very welcoming.

The best part for me was the rides around Inle Lake; really peaceful and interesting riding and the lake a source of life for so much. Great bikes and great group all added to the experience.
Tips?
Go with the flow; if you choose Monsoon season be prepared to get very very wet; that said it was part of the experience and part of life in Myanmar so it didn't really detract. Just take quick dry clothes and several pairs of shoes/rubber ones help.
