Description of Southern Italy small group vacation, Amalfi to Bari

Taking in the more popular tourist haunts of the Amalfi Coast as well as the rarely visited “heel”, this 10-day small group tour is a comprehensive exploration of southern Italy, complete with whitewashed villages, offshore islands, medieval churches and Roman ruins. Hang out with the sophisticates of Puglia and cruise to cool Capri, then go rustic and pick lemons straight from Amalfi’s trees, and stay in the whitewashed trulli limestone dwellings in Alberobello, to really experience local life.

No tour of Italy would be complete without sampling its incredible food and drink – and the labyrinthine streets of Bari are just perfect for sitting in the shade and sipping a limoncello. Steep walks take you the source of the Italian bounty – through the vineyards and olive groves that line the appropriately names Walk of the Gods. The eccentric port town of Trani will transport you back into a 1950s film set, while Polignano a Mare and Lecce boast medieval drawbridges, baroque architecture, a Roman amphitheatre and an extravagant basilica.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The very ethos of our style of travel is responsible; small groups on fully escorted tours, experiencing the very best of a region, a culture and a landscape, with a friendly local hand guiding the way. Our itineraries are designed to give our travelers real life experiences without compromising the part of the world through which we are journeying, this is our commitment as a global tour operator.

As a company, our responsibilities don’t stop when our tours end. We run and support a variety of projects globally, from healthcare, education, human rights, child welfare, sustainable development and environmental and wildlife protection. Our own in house foundation has been in operation for over 11 years; a not-for-profit fund that has distributed over AU$3 million to more than 70 non-government organisations since 2002. Donations come from our travelers and are then matched by us dollar for dollar.

People

Accommodation & meals: Our small group size allows us to stay in family-run hotels that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to their limited size. By booking this tour, you are supporting local tourism in the area. Protecting the local economy is one small way we can keep the town alive in a responsible manner. You will path the way for future travelers 20, 30 or 40 years from now for them to experience a traditional restored dry-stone trulli dwelling built with local limestone in the 14th century.

An overnight stay here will make you (and our future passengers) feel like a true Alberobello resident.

We also support small restaurants and cafes, such a restaurant inside a 9,000 year old sassi dwelling – a stone house formed from natural grottoes.
