The variation from a modern and old city, mountains, forests, coasts and friendly people. There was a lot of traveling but we did see a lot of the different parts of the country. Very memorable. Read full reviewResponsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Making a positive difference for both people and planet underpins our itineraries and wider travel philosophy, and Panama is a destination where this approach really shines. With its rich biodiversity, strong eco-tourism credentials and deep-rooted local cultures, Panama appeals to travelers who want their journey to be meaningful, low impact and closely connected to the places they visit.Where you stay plays a big part in this. We work with small-scale, locally owned hotels and guesthouses rather than international chains, offering characterful places that reflect their surroundings and support local livelihoods. Many of our stays are designed to minimise environmental impact, using existing or restored buildings and operating with a strong focus on sustainability, while keeping guest numbers low.
Low-impact travel continues through the experiences included. Activities such as hiking and cycling are a core part of our Panama itineraries, helping you explore at a slower pace while reducing carbon use. Entrance fees to national parks and protected areas contribute directly to conservation and the upkeep of these landscapes, supporting biodiversity long after your visit.
All excursions and partners are carefully vetted to meet high environmental and wildlife-welfare standards. Animal welfare is non-negotiable for us and is guided by independent experts Animondial, ensuring experiences are ethical, responsible and focused on conservation rather than entertainment.
Before you travel, we also help you make responsible choices, from practical tips on reducing waste to encouraging a more mindful style of travel. As a business, we aim to practise what we stand for too. Our UK team works from a B-Corp-certified office, operates largely paper-free and partners with Earthly to invest in nature-based solutions that remove carbon, restore biodiversity and support local livelihoods. A small contribution is included in every itinerary, helping protect the natural environments that make travel through Panama possible.
People
Our trips aim to put positively impacting local communities at front and center of our itineraries, as local interactions are what make our trips so fantastic.Throughout our trips we use local guides and drivers who are there to pass on their specialist expertise to our customers, just ask away - the more you ask the more you get out of the whole experience. By having a local guide specific to each area you gain both insight and experience of what life is really like in each of these incredible destinations.
We work with small, boutique style special stays full of authentic flare work twofold by offering you a unique experience and also supporting local business ventures and local employment, thus supporting the local economy. For instance [example]. During your trip, there is a wealth of local shops, cafe’s, bars and restaurants to visit and enjoy, in Pedasi you will stay in a cosy, family- run guesthouse and the town has many locally run bars, cafes and shops that the traveler is encouraged to enjoy. This helps bolster the local economy further.
We are constantly looking for meaningful trips which give back to the communities and adds something really special to our customer's experience in Panama. During this itinerary you will spend a couple of nights in Boquete, our coffee tour here seeks to support local farmers in the area. In Panama there are no co-operatives for local farmers so the farm you visit will reap all the rewards of your visit. You'll get to know all about coffee from the fruit stage to the tasting stage and you'll see exactly what agricultural life is like in Panama today.
One of the key aspects of our itineraries is that we work with local partners who are based in country in order to provide the most authentic insight into everyday life in the destination, and divert from the usual tourist trail (which is important when considering the mitigation of environmental degradation in tourist hotspots) but also supports the country's economy even before our customer has touched down as the local partner helps to develop their itinerary.
We maximise local economic opportunities further by using only locally owned excursion companies where you will meet and learn from expert local guides throughout the trip on excursions, for instance when enjoying the city tour in Panama city, where you can expect to visit the hidden gems with the help of an expert local guide.
