1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
This was a lovely vacation and the coastal walks especially glorious. We much appreciated the welcome pack of groceries, the very comfortable and well appointed townhouse, and the flexibility we were given to modify our routes. In the unseasonably hot June weather (30 degrees plus) having our own pool was a great bonus. When the heat curtailed our walks, the local beaches included in several walks were a delight.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Vivian and Alan gave us a warm welcome and provided us with a pack of interesting, varied and sometimes challenging walks through vineyards, river valleys, in the Gavarres hills and up and down the craggy coastal paths. We would recommend sturdy walking boots and stick or walking pole as paths were often stony or rocky, and some of the walks involved a bit of scrambling over rocks or up steep steps, which might be tough for anyone with problem knees. Be sure to take your swimming things on coastal walks - the sea is hard to resist!
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
We ate very well in the local village at the Cercle bar, where the owners were very friendly. And we used the excellent local bakers, butcher and fishmonger when we cooked at home. Calonge provided everything we needed and encouraged us to sample the range of village life.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
This was an excellent vacation which we would definitely recommend.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

We believe that you can discover a lot more about an area by walking! You can experience the natural beauty of Catalonia with minimum impact to the environment. Our walking tours are aimed at people looking for an authentic travel/vacation experience. Our local knowledge and love of the area ensures that guests are introduced to the areas of natural interest as well as the local history and customs. This benefits the community directly as well as the local tourist tax which goes in to creating new walking paths as well as preserving the areas of natural interest.
Our new Cycle Centre blends in with the old medieval village of Calonge which is typically Catalan and not particularly a tourist destination. We have employed local craftsmen to build our houses in a traditional style and have sourced some beautiful local materials. We have installed solar panels which heats the water and have a recycling bin area and a composter.

We sponsor an organic vegetable allotment with seeds and tools. It provides freshly grown produce weekly to the local Red Cross in Palafrugell. Volunteers distribute the vegetables along with other essential food items to people in the local community who are under severe financial pressure mainly due to the current high levels of unemployment.Every tour promotes local producers and markets as well as small family run restaurants and hotels. We have built up an excellent network of visits to Can Solivera an organic olive oil producer, Mas Eugeni, a Calonge based vineyard and market garden, La Vinyeta a small vineyard and olive oil producer run by Josep Serra Pla and his graphic designer brother who creates the most imaginative labels. Can Serra, a third generation wine shop run by Enrique Serra whose knowledge of Emporda wines is immense.
The museum de confitura owned by Georgina Regas who started up her little jam factory seven years ago after making great marmalade from her lemon tree. The fish museum which was rebuilt after it was bombed in the Civil war. Most tours offer a visit to the fish auction, fish museum or a cookery class/ demonstration.
Every two years we host a Burns Supper or St Andrews night to introduce local people to Scottish cultural activites and traditions.
