Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Alongside ensuring guests have a top quality safari adventure, our ground agents are also very aware of the delicate environment they work in. All guides are very highly trained and qualified and have great respect and care for the park that they live and work in.Part of the Okavango Delta’s appeal is the wonderful waterways which dissect it and one of the best ways to see it is on a mokoro, a traditional African canoe. This low-impact and ecologically friendly method of transportation ensures that not even footprints are left at the end of the day and does not add any pollutants, petrol or tracks into the park. The only fuel used is the power of your rowing arms.
Game walks are also carried out in the camps, escorted by a professional guide, you will be able to make your way into the park on foot without any motorised vehicle allowing you incredible access to the wildlife. We do ask that you take only photos from the park, avoid any contact with the animals and carry out everything you take in with you in order to preserve it for many years to come. One of the activities offered is fishing, and while the waterways are teeming with fish life, this activity is carried out responsibly to sustain the levels and fish are put back at the end of your activity.
Throughout your safari your main method of transportation between camps is by air. Our air carrier ensures that all flights are conducted with safety as a strict priority but also with respect for the wildlife and the delicate eco-system which surround the airstrip. Pilots are experts in flying in this area and take great care to ensure that minimal disturbance is caused by the planes which offer a unique vantage point across the park during your flight.
People
Our ground agents are passionate supporters of their community and believe that part of what makes a truly great vacation is the people that you meet on your safari experience. As a result, they put plenty of time and effort into giving local people the necessary qualifications and training they need into order to look after you in the bush. As a consequence, everyone is incredibly supportive of the company and takes conservation, the preservation of the parks and the upkeep of their local communities very seriously.Community projects are close to our ground agent’s heart and fostering social development of their local communities has led to the foundation of the Bana Ba Letsatsi project. Meaning ‘children of the sun’ the charity supports vulnerable, orphaned or at risk children living in Maun. There are over 200 currently on the register and they are supported through a percentage of the fee they charge for their safaris which goes directly to the charity.
The lodge at Victoria Falls also plays a key part in its community, founding the Tukongote Community Project which helps to improve the education standard in the nearby villages. Over 400 children are now supported and 19 teachers are employed and being helped to gain recognised teaching qualification. As many of the lodge’s staff come from and live in these communities they will be pleased to show you rural Zambian life and what your contribution is helping to fund.
We also support an initiative called Pack for a Purpose which can have a huge impact on the lives of children. Pack any available space in your luggage with vital supplies which you can share with the community during your visit. For more details on what is currently needed please contacts us, but previous requests have been for pencils, plasters, stethoscopes, soccer balls etc.
