Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
On this tour, all travelers will receive a reusable cloth bag to use throughout the trip. Plastic pollution is huge issue so this small gesture for our clients will assist in campaign to stop the use of plastic bags while shopping and visiting market places for souvenirs.Responsible travel is one of the pillars our company is built upon. All of our travelers are provided with information regarding responsible travel at all stages of the booking process and while traveling with us. Our leaders are also trained extensively in responsible travel and will advocate for this throughout our trips. On our vehicles we supply drinking water so travelers can re-fill their water bottles.
On this trip we try to use local transportation where we can. To assist in minimising our transportation impact we ride bikes 4 days of the itinerary. Which is also a fantastic way to see and discover this amazing country.
People
An important part of travel is mixing with the locals and experiencing “real life” in the destination. On this trip, we visit small cafes and restaurants and buy locally produced crafts and produce. This gives locals the opportunity to earn money directly and our travelers the chance to interact with locals. Our travelers experience an overnight stay in the Mai Chau region. Mai Chau is home to a variety of minority groups with their own unique culture and languages. We stay in a local homestay. We use only Vietnamese leaders as well as local guides in many destinations. All aspects of this trip (on the ground) are operated by Vietnamese (most of whom live locally) including all our leaders, vehicle drivers, local site guides, and accommodation providers.
We have a Foundation which was set up to empower travelers to have a positive impact on the communities they visit. Our Foundation now supports over 50 local, grassroots projects around the world. Over the past 15 years, The Foundation has distributed over AU $5 million to projects tackling areas such as sustainable development, human rights, child protection, environmental conservation, wildlife protection, education and healthcare. On this trip we join our friends at KOTO for lunch. KOTO stands for 'Know One, Teach One'. An organisation supported by The Foundation, it trains street kids for careers in the hospitality industry.
This family trip has a maximum group size of 16, to minimise our impact on the places we visit. Overtourism is an issue we are very conscious of and we are taking measures to ensure our impact on the communities we visit and their environment is our top priority.
