Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

This trip takes in wildlife sanctuaries at Bharatpur and Ranthambore, where we are accompanied by a local wildlife expert who has in depth experience leading groups in the parks. We use small vehicles to minimise any negative effects on the environment and keep disturbance to the wildlife to a minimum. Furthermore fees generated by our visit get invested back into the National Park to promote future conservation initiatives .

We stay in a heritage hotel on the trip which was built is over 300 years old and maintains much of the original furniture. Our use of the hotel helps to provide a motive to keep it maintained for future generations, furthermore during our stay in Pachewar we visit a local family for a cooking demonstration which keeps money in the local community.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

People

At the start of this trip we explore Delhi and hire local cycle rickshaws, providing a much needed source of income to the rickshaw riders. We also visit several local street food venues, giving our customers the chance to try out this very typical Indian way of eating on the move, and again supporting the small local businesses of the city.

With a high level of local expertise, passion for their country, and a desire to enable traveler experience all it has to offer, our Indian tour leaders encourage supporting grass roots businesses and eating in local restaurants. Our annual tour leader training course includes a strong focus on responsible tourism practices, ensuring that our trips run in accordance with our code of practice. For example, at the start of each trip they provide guidance concerning local customs and culture so as to ensure that local sensibilities are understood and respected.

In Cambodia, we help to support vulnerable communities through business; during our free time in Siem Reap we may choose to visit the land mine museum which helps to support affected families and land mine clearance. In Phnom Penh our Tour Leader will organise a group meal at the ‘Friends’ restaurant, where young people with limited resources are trained on all aspects of running a restaurant. This organisation also has worked with our hotels to ensure children are not exploited in any way.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
