North Peru luxury tailor made tour
Most people go south, not north in Peru, meaning you're going well off the beaten track. There's no Machu Picchu on this itinerary, but there are even older, pre-Incan ruins at Kuelap, archaeological marvels at Chiclayo, and time on the beach at beautiful Mancora.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The variety of archeology & landscape that we experienced.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Travel light
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, very much so.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Pretty good. There were things that could have been better: the balance of travel days to experiences wasn't ideal, a warning about the state of the roads in Peru would have been good along with some travel sickness tablets! and a better estimation of travel times. There were a few anomalies in the itinerary, which was frustrating. There were errors in our passport details for internal flights in Peru, absolutely no idea why. Companies like this operator are missing a trick by not listing fully in the itinerary what each hotel/travel co etc is doing to help with carbon reduction, use of local suppliers etc. This means a lot to us & other travelers and should be made more explicit. There was quite a difference in our 'ground support' from the Mexico part of our itinerary & the Peru part, different companies employed in each country, very different approach.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTION:As with all our luxury vacations, this itinerary has been designed to ensure that it positively impacts the planet. We encourage travelers to fly only when destinations are farther away and to book non-stop flights where possible. In addition, we encourage travelers to slow things down by staying longer in one destination rather than taking multiple short trips each year.
We also make a special effort to recommend accommodation providers who take steps to protect and conserve the landscape for generations to come. We likewise make sure the tour operators we use to explore the land do so in responsible ways. For example, KiChic Hotel used/uses only sustainable and natural materials in its construction, like eucalyptus wood and adobe, as a way of respecting the environment.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
When in wildlife conservation areas, we select lodges that are committed to conserving the environment, and that are dedicated to sustainability and responsibility. For example, Gocta Andes Lodge has placed special emphasis on the rational use of electricity and water, as well as reducing plastic use.
People
LOCAL ECONOMY:We promote small owner-run businesses that not only hire locally but also give back to the area’s communities.
We likewise recommend accommodations that support the local communities. For example, Hotel B has an on-site local Deli, providing and supplying local produce and home-cooked Peruvian delicacies, and it also showcases local artwork. On the other hand, nearly 90% of the employees at Gocta Andes Lodge are from the district of Valera and neighbouring provinces. As a result, the lodge has been able to give more employment opportunities to a region that historically had none.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
All the local guides referred to in this itinerary are local staff and are paid fair salaries. We believe it is vital to use local guides, as it offers a more authentic travel experience and generates local income. The guides that we use have incredible knowledge of the history, landscape, and people within Peru, meaning they’ll explain in greater depth the varied eco-system and different communities living within the areas that you’ll see during your trip.
