5 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Everything! I really enjoyed visiting all the sites, meeting locals, and even driving through the country and being able to see the Iranian countryside. The food
was amazing. I am vegetarian and found the options just as plentiful and wonderful. Our guide, Ara, was very knowledgeable, caring, and most importantly, passionate and proud of Iran, and that heavily influenced our experience.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Perhaps consider bringing small gifts/trinkets from their home countries to give to locals. We found locals that we met so generous and warm; it would have
been nice if we hadn't arrived empty-handed. Had I known (better), I would have brought some things from home to share and give as gifts when entering
local Iranian homes.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes and no. Yes, I do believe it benefitted local people, and I am very glad with that. No because I was acutely aware of the waste we were generating, which I
understand at the same time is unavoidable. For example, we had ample water supply... in the form of plastic bottles. I'm not sure what the solution is or how to
overcome this. Another example, all the (excellent and splendid!) hotels we stayed at used small plastic bottles for their bathroom amenities. Again, I
understand this is "how it is"... perhaps travelers can be encouraged to bring their own?...and am not sure what the best practice is for overcoming this.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent! The operator was excellent. Their service from start to finish was the best. My father had some passport issues, and they immediately assisted
however they could. I feel very fortunate to have gone to Iran.
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetWe strive to preserve the uniqueness of fragile remote places and small communities and to minimize the negative impact of tourism on local natural and cultural environments. We are always talking to our local ground agents about the importance of stressing to clients the importance of basic responsible principles such as appropriate waste disposal, not to waste water, turning off lights on leaving the room in hotels etc. We endeavor to preserve and enhance the environments in which we operate and work with all relevant local bodies and authorities to help preserve or improve the environment and deliver a long-term benefit for the host community.
Where possible we choose suppliers who have green practices in place.
We attempt to reduce the use of single use plastic water bottles by providing water bottles and actively encourage our customers to use them.
We do not leave any plastics, cans, bottles, bottle tops or cigarette ends behind.
The staff is committed to being as environmentally friendly as possible. All of the staff use public transport and the manager cycle into work. All paper, as well as aluminum cans and plastic, are recycled. Our offices endeavor to be environmentally sound through practicing energy conservation and adhering to recycling schemes.
PeopleWe do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. The small number also allows us to stay in unique, family-run hotels that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to their limited sizes.
We support local tourism in regions where it exists such as rural tourism or historical trip.
We encourage our clients to buy locally made things. We also advise them to buy craft items and other gifts from local stores, which serve as great monuments.
We ensure that local economies benefit from our business by using locally-owned accommodation, employing local people as specialist guides, working with local operators and suppliers, sourcing food from locally-owned stores and eating and drinking in local bars and restaurants. In doing so, we are not only investing in local communities but also offering our travelers a genuine insight into a country and its people.
We deal with locally owned, managed and staffed ground agents and, where possible, try and stay in locally owned hotels and lodges. The ground agents pay a fair salary to staff and provide regular training to support their future development. By doing so all wages paid to the staff generated from our partnership remains in their own community and is spent by them as they see fit.
