Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
This small group adventure spends three nights in a low impact, yurt camp in the heart of Iceland's Golden Circle. Located close to Gullfoss Falls which is one of the countries busiest tourist sites, we make the most of being able to visit at quieter times of the day helping us avoid the crowds and really appreciate this beautiful natural wonder.

Being based in such a remote location means we don't have to travel each evening to avoid the light pollution found in the cities, we can just step outside and appreciate the stars and if we are lucky watch the incredible Northern Lights dance across the sky.

The camp is set on a working horse farm and our hosts, Asa and Hjalti give us a warm welcome and a real insight in to rural life in Iceland. The yurts are designed to compliment the surroundings, and not detract from Iceland's beautiful landscape. Materials left over from building the yurts have been up-cycled to make unique furniture including the large table and chairs in our dining yurt. The shower block has been created from an old shipping container and is kitted out with refillable toiletry bottles to reduce the need for single-use plastics.

Water in Iceland is excellent quality and we encourage all customers to carry a re-usable bottle with them and fill up during the day, avoiding the need for single-use plastic bottles.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

The Impacts of this Trip

As well as spending a night in the countries capital this trip is based on a rural horse farm in the Golden Circle. In the evening we visit the small, local restaurant and have the chance to bathe in a natural hot spring. Both are run by locals for locals and are well off the standard tourist trail so the money we spend goes directly in to this small community.

We travel with Icelandic guides which allows us to learn all about modern life in Iceland and hear the history as their share local myths and legends that have been passed down through the generations.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
