The trip is structured as a loop starting and ending in Amman, removing the need for internal flights. Overland routes, such as the scenic King’s Highway, allow traveler’s to experience Jordan’s landscapes while reducing carbon-intensive transport.

Shared Local Transport
The tour uses shared air-conditioned minibuses/coaches for inter-site transfers and 4x4 Bedouin jeeps for Wadi Rum safaris. Using shared vehicles (minibus/coach) for transfers and sightseeing reduces CO? per passenger compared with private transfers or many separate taxis.

Human Powered Transport
Exploration of Petra is primarily on foot. Walking distances range from a minimum of 3km through the Siq to the Treasury and back, up to around 8km for those continuing to the main basin, with an optional further climb of over 800 steps to reach the Monastery. Traveling through Petra on foot enables travelers to experience the site in depth while keeping emissions to an absolute minimum. Optional hikes, such as to the Monastery and the High Place of Sacrifice and the Lion Fountain, further promote low-impact, human-powered exploration.

Locally Sourced Food and Vegetarian Options
Vegetarian and vegan options are available daily, particularly during the Amman street food experience and dinners at the Bedouin camps. Local cuisine is emphasized throughout, using seasonal produce and regional ingredients to minimize food miles and support Jordanian farmers.

A professional licensed guide accompanies all groups of five or more throughout the entire tour. For smaller groups of two to four, one of our experienced English-speaking drivers escorts the group, while specialist local site guides are employed for visits to Jerash, Amman (Citadel), and Petra.

We aim to only use local Jordanian guides and representatives. This approach not only provides guests with an authentic insight into the country’s culture and heritage but also ensures that income from tourism directly supports Jordanian people and their local economies.

Income Generation for Marginalized Groups
The partnership with the Wild Jordan Centre supports women’s cooperatives and rural families through handicraft production and ecotourism initiatives. The Petra Kitchen class also provides income to local women and chefs, promoting gender-inclusive economic opportunities.

Accessibility and Welfare Considerations
At Petra, travelers with limited mobility or those concerned about long walking distances can use golf buggies to cover the 1.2km route through the Siq to the Treasury. The use of horse carriages is discouraged for animal welfare reasons, encouraging more ethical and sustainable ways to access the site.
