Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
Upper Mustang is a hidden gem of the world with its unique nature and culture. Mostly we will be trekking during the tour and try to exclude the use of vehicles where possible. Before starting the trek during the first dinner we will have a briefing about things that are appropriate and inappropriate when in Nepal.
This area is huge and there is no project to clean it afterwards on the government level. Don't bring any plastic with you like bags, tissues, snacks, bottles, travel kits cosmetics and so on. Think about our land and we are happy to consult you on how to replace all these things without polluting this region.
The water is really precious here so keep in mind when you brush your teeth or taking long showers.
We are going to stay in guest houses which are eco-friendly and use solar panels. We choose all our partners that match our environmental values: less wood burning, organic and locally-grown food.
People
In this area people are still conservative, it would be nice if you read and learn about traditions before coming. We ask to dress modestly: shorts that cover your knees, no sleeveless tops, don't go inside the temples with your shoes, don't take photos if there is a sign saying so. We will be staying on the holy land for Buddhist and respect is very important from both sides.Take part in celebrations with locals, teach them few words in your language, support by small donations local hospitals, schools or educative institutions. We will visit farms and factories that educate and employ women, you can support them by buying local food from shops and restaurants, hand-craftings, boiled or purified water, fresh fruits and veggie. For most ethnic people who live there, it is the only source of income. In this way, you can make sure that the money you spend all go locals.
All our guides and porters in Mustang region are locals as well, we employ them and provide them with good conditions: insurance, meals, accommodation, salary. Anyway, tips are highly encouraged as it is an opportunity for them to have extra income and be secure even when there is no job sometimes. This area is very hard to get to so the influence of modern worlds can't be seen. Once you get there with us don't forget to greet them, be humble and spend this 16-day journey like a local!
