As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
PlanetMany camels, horses and donkeys are used as working animals within the tourism industry in Egypt and the level of animal welfare can vary significantly. We have trained our leaders on this issue, and work together with our local team to ensure as best we can that we only work with owners where their animals appear to be well fed, watered and cared for. Leaders have been advised that if they should have any concerns they are able to contact us to discuss the options.
The tap water in Egypt is not recommended for drinking and in many cases only bottled water is advised, however, we have a partnership with Water-to-Go to encourage all of our customers to purchase a filter bottle for their travels. Not only does a filter bottle offer a source of clean and safe drinking water, it also dramatically reduces single-use plastic usage while in Egypt. Also from every purchase 15% is given to a project or charity of our choosing.
As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.
PeopleAll staff and crew working directly with our groups are locally recruited including the leaders and local guides. Our local leaders and ground team have been trained by an Operations Manager from the UK and have a long working relationship with us. We are proud to be able to put money into the Egyptian economy and always endeavor to work with local operators and staff wherever possible.
Our leaders always encourage responsible shopping and spending within their countries. The leaders will offer recommendations of local Egyptian restaurants instead of larger chains as well as information about markets and bazaars frequented by the locals rather than shopping centers. On this trip the group will be offered the chance to have dinner in a Nubian Village. This optional extra will be a chance to see and learn about traditional Nubian customs and their style of living.
As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
