Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionAs a travel company we are acutely aware of our impact on the environment. All of our tours display a carbon footprint, and we strive to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our tours and embracing low-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which offer the added benefit of getting a closer connection with the destination and local community.
Almost all the food on this trip is locally sourced and seasonal, which is the very essence of this food tour in Sicily, the seasonal local produce is the highlight of this trip.
We spend a night at a working farm where we will witness their milk farming, and cheese-making processes, and learn about their sustainable agricultural methods. The food we will be consuming during our stay will predominantly consist of what they grow on-site and some locally sourced or farm-raised produce, ensuring minimal food miles and a commitment to carbon reduction. Most of the staff working here live on-site helping with a low carbon footprint for the property.
Environment and Wildlife
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us, we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
In Agrigento, we engage local guides to support employment opportunities for residents, while the entrance fees we pay contribute to the management and preservation of the ancient site. Similarly, at the Mafia Museum in Corleone, our local guide offers profound insights that enhance our understanding of the challenges faced under mafia rule, emphasising responsible tourism by fostering local expertise and supporting cultural preservation efforts.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
On this trip we support a local artist by visiting the Andromeda Theatre—an architectural wonder crafted predominantly by the visionary shepherd-sculptor Lorenzo Reina in the 1970s. Positioned on a hill once used for grazing his flock, this site embodies a harmonious coexistence between spirit and nature. Our visit contributes to the upkeep and development of this unique site and supports a growing community of local artists.
People
Local EconomyOur leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travelers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
All our local guides in Sicily hail from the Sicilian region, embodying a deep understanding of the local culture, history, and traditions. Additionally, our tour leaders are either Italian or Sicilian, ensuring an authentic and insightful experience as they share their expertise and passion for the region throughout our journey.
