CARBON REDUCTION

This self-drive itinerary travels around Namibia by vehicle, rather than by flying between destinations. A normal vehicle such as the Toyota Hilux (or similar) included in this trip can be shared by up to 5 people and larger vehicles are available for even bigger groups to share.

Human powered activities are available throughout the trip, including nature walks in Damaraland and when staying on the Okonjima Nature Reserve.

A number of accommodations included in this suggested itinerary are powered by renewable energy. For example both Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp is run entirely from solar power and Musher Outpost has solar panels that contribute 70% of their power.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

A percentage of each booking goes into a fund to support a number of projects across Namibia, some of these are wildlife projects including the Desert Lion Conservation Trust and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.

The Okonjima Nature Reserve is home to the AfriCat Foundation, which is one of the best known wildlife charities in Namibia. The foundation focuses on educating Namibia’s youth and on research projects which are essential in accomplishing its mission of the long term conservation of Namibia’s wildlife in their natural habitat, but in an enclosed conservation area.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Our local partner in Namibia has always employed local people and takes great care in their career development and progression within the tourism sector. This trip travel through many small towns and villages and in our pre-departure information we highlight small, locally run establishments that our travelers might like to visit, directly contributing to the local economy.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The local partner we work with to offer this trip have offered financial and logistics support to a number of charitable projects in Namibia since 2002 as well as mentoring start-up companies run by previously disadvantaged entrepreneurs. They also take on interns who are studying tourism, hospitality, finance, and business management.

In February 2023 the company also started a volunteer program, whereby every staff member spends one working day per month volunteering within our local community, at project including; SPCA Windhoek, Physically Active Youth, Hope for Life, National Library of Namibia and the Megameno Orphanage in Katutura.
