In order to make this trip as carbon-friendly as possible both of the safari camps included - Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp are powered 100% by solar energy.

At both camps in the itinerary and Hwange National Park is general is a good destination to choose for activity options that do not involve vehicles, for example walking safaris are possible in both Hwange National Park from both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Both of the safari camps included in this itinerary are of a lightweight semi-permanent that creates very little environmental impact and if they were removed the site would re-wild in a very short space of time. In order to manage the outputs from the camps the camps also have bio-plants which handle the waste from the kitchen.

Both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp are located in crucial national parks and by visiting these camps you are contributing to the continued maintenance and value of these parks as havens for wildlife.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

The operator behind both camps in this itinerary are committed to the youth development in local communities. In order to support this they run a number of different initiatives. For example they provide invaluable work experience to promising young local mens and women in their camps. They also have a policy to employ two university graduate students to equip them with the necessary experience to become lodge managers. They also fill two intern positions each and ensure that 10% of their permanent staff are women under the age of 25.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The operator that runs both Deteema Springs and Verney's Camp is closely involved in the local community for example it helps to fund Hwange Main Camp Primary School, providing more opportunities and better education for local children. They help the school by providing teacher support to educators who are not on the government payroll in addition to building facilities, providing textbooks and more.
