Planet
CARBON REDUCTION:All of the camps utilise solar power for the majority of their requirements.
Carbon reduction practices are in place, with one lodge using natural air-colling systems to minimise the need of electrically powered air-conditioning, while another lodge has moved to using more environmentally friendly LiFePO4 rechargeable batteries, which are both more effective at charging and have a higher energy output and less harmful to the environment at the end of their life time.
All the camps selected source local and seasonal ingredients for meals as much as possible, with menus tailored to the availability of quality ingredients.
Every camp caters to vegetarians. Vegans are catered to, but may have limited choices in some cases.
ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE:
Park & conservation fees at each camp contribute towards wildlife and community projects.
In Liuwa Plains National Park, conservation fees are used by African Parks (who operate the park) to help with a number of projects alongside the conservation programmes within the park. One project in particular is the Farmers Field School, which has helped to teach over 5,000 local farmers sustainable farming practices to regulate the pressure on natural resources.
Kafue National Park is also supported by African Parks, who use a business model which encourages tourism revenue in order to support park maintenance and conservation. Since African Parks took leadership in 2022, Kafue has had a 196% increase in tourism revenue, and carried out a number of aerial surveys and established a number of community engagement programmes.
Park fees at Kasanka National Park are used towards the operation of the park, supporting the employment of rangers and maintenance.
Wasa Lodge, the property used in Kasanka National Park, has a water conservation programme in order to recycle and re-use water where possible, and dispose of wastewater in a responsible manner.
