CARBON REDUCTION

The South Sardinia Multi-Adventure Tour is designed to explore the island’s southern coast and inland areas through low-impact, human-powered activities. Travelers experience Sardinia’s landscapes by cycling, hiking and kayaking, spending most of the trip outdoors and reducing the need for motorised transport.

Transfers are made by local minivans, while all accommodations are locally owned agriturismi, boutique hotels and small guesthouses that use renewable energy, energy-saving lighting and water conservation systems. Guests are encouraged to refill bottles, avoid single-use plastics and limit energy and water use.

Meals feature seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, often produced directly by the hosts. Vegetarian and vegan options are available every day. By favouring local food and shared transport, this trip helps reduce emissions while directly supporting small-scale Sardinian agriculture.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The itinerary crosses some of southern Sardinia’s most scenic and ecologically rich areas, from the coastal cliffs of San Pietro and Sant’Antioco to the Mediterranean scrublands of the Cammino di Santa Barbara. Guided activities are designed to protect and respect these fragile environments.

During kayaking excursions, guests are briefed on how to observe marine life responsibly, maintaining a safe distance from seabirds and avoiding disturbance to caves and nesting areas.

Partner accommodations follow Leave No Trace and waste-reduction practices, using eco-friendly cleaning products and recycling systems. Travelers are encouraged to respect local flora and fauna, helping to protect Sardinia’s coastal and inland ecosystems for future generations.

LOCAL ECONOMY

This tour has been created to strengthen southern Sardinia’s local economy by connecting travelers with small, community-based businesses. Every accommodation is locally owned, from seaside hotels in Sant’Antioco to family-run guesthouses in Iglesias. The majority of guides, drivers and hosts are Sardinian, ensuring that tourism revenue stays within the region.

Travelers experience authentic local culture through pasta-making workshops, wine tastings with small producers and archaeological visits led by experts who share the island’s Nuragic heritage. Stops in fishing villages like Carloforte and Sant’Antioco promote local crafts and gastronomy, supporting livelihoods that depend on small-scale, sustainable tourism rather than mass industry.

Local partnerships also include cooperatives and associations involved in preserving the Cammino di Santa Barbara, which provides employment opportunities and revitalises inland communities often affected by depopulation.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Over 90% of the people involved in this tour (guides, accommodation owners and drivers)are Sardinian residents. Many of our partners are women-led enterprises, particularly in the fields of hospitality, gastronomy and cultural guiding. All collaborators are paid fairly and work under respectful, supportive conditions.

The tour is LGBTQ+ friendly and inclusive for travelers of all backgrounds. Accommodations are selected for their warm hospitality and willingness to adapt to guests with mobility or sensory needs.

By traveling this way, guests actively support responsible and regenerative tourism, helping preserve Sardinia’s southern heritage, empower local communities and ensure that the island’s culture and natural beauty remain alive and accessible to all.
