Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

This trip is designed around low-carbon travel. Dugi Otok is reached by ferry, as there is no option to arrive by air, and once the group is on the water, sea kayaking becomes the main form of transport for the journey. With six paddling days built into the itinerary, the trip avoids the need for motorised island-hopping and speedboat transfers.

Guests are encouraged to travel lightly, bring reusable water bottles and reduce single-use plastic during the trip. Vegetarian and vegan meals can be provided with advance notice, and food is sourced locally wherever possible. Scheduled ferries and shared island transfers are also used as part of the journey.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This itinerary follows the coastline of Dugi Otok and includes entry into Telašcica Nature Park. Because the trip takes place in a sensitive marine and coastal environment, it is run in small groups and the route is adapted to weather, sea state and landing conditions to help reduce pressure on fragile areas.

Traveling by sea kayak allows guests to move quietly through the landscape with far less disturbance than motor-based excursions. Guests are briefed on responsible behaviour throughout the trip, and we follow a clear leave-no-trace approach. The journey also helps travelers better understand the ecological value of Dugi Otok’s cliffs, coves, beaches and protected waters.

LOCAL ECONOMY

This trip is built around small-scale island tourism rather than high-volume resort tourism. It uses a campsite, bungalow stay and smaller-scale hotel or apartment accommodation, while transport, supplies and services are sourced in Croatia and on the island wherever possible. This helps keep more of the value of the trip in the local economy and supports smaller businesses on Dugi Otok.

Guests spend meaningful time on the island rather than passing through quickly, creating a more grounded connection with the destination and the people who live and work there.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

This trip is led by experienced ACA-certified local guides with first-hand knowledge of Dugi Otok, the sea and local conditions. Keeping guiding local means that knowledge, skills and economic value remain in the destination itself.

We aim to create a respectful and inclusive environment for travelers from different backgrounds, and we do not discriminate on the basis of nationality, gender, race or sexual orientation. Because this is an active expedition-style trip involving six paddling days, camping and remote coastal sections, it is not suitable for travelers with limited mobility, and we believe it is important to be clear about that from the outset.
