Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

Efforts have been made to minimise carbon emissions throughout this itinerary by designing the tour entirely within Mogadishu, avoiding domestic flights and long-distance transport. All movements are short-distance and efficiently planned within the city and its surroundings.

Transport during the trip is organised using shared local vehicles, reducing the carbon footprint per traveler compared to private transport. Group sizes are kept small to further minimise environmental impact while maintaining a high-quality experience.

Human-powered activities are incorporated where possible, including walking through districts such as Hamarweyne and Shangani, allowing travelers to explore at a slower pace with minimal environmental impact.

Accommodation and meals are locally sourced wherever possible. Food is primarily local and seasonal, reducing reliance on imported goods. Vegetarian options are available and encouraged to further reduce the environmental footprint.

Travelers are advised on how to reduce their impact, including using reusable water bottles, minimising plastic waste, and being mindful of water and energy consumption.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We work with locally owned partners in Mogadishu that are encouraged to adopt environmentally responsible practices, including waste reduction and limiting single-use plastics. While sustainability infrastructure in Somalia is still developing, we prioritise partners that demonstrate awareness and commitment.

Visits along the coastline, including Lido Beach and surrounding areas, are conducted with respect for the natural environment. Travelers are guided on responsible behaviour, including avoiding littering and protecting marine ecosystems.

Local guides provide insight into the coastal environment and ensure that all visits are conducted responsibly, respecting both nature and local communities.

Although formal wildlife conservation initiatives in Mogadishu are limited, we are committed to supporting environmental awareness and encouraging responsible tourism practices.

LOCAL ECONOMY

All accommodations and services used during this tour are locally owned, ensuring that tourism revenue directly supports businesses in Mogadishu.

The tour is designed to maximise local economic benefit by employing local guides, drivers, and security personnel, and by visiting local markets and community spaces such as the fish market and Bakara Market.

Interactions with local communities, small vendors and market traders provide direct income opportunities and contribute to the local economy.

In addition, part of the tour revenue contributes to community support initiatives, helping to provide essential goods to low-income families and supporting local welfare.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We operate with a fully locally employed team in Somalia, including guides, drivers and support staff. This ensures that tourism directly creates employment opportunities within the local community.

The company is committed to training and developing local talent, particularly young guides, helping to build long-term skills and opportunities in the tourism sector.

All staff are paid fairly and work in a supportive and professional environment.

We promote inclusivity and cultural respect. Mogadishu is a conservative destination, and travelers are advised on local customs to ensure a respectful and positive experience.

The company maintains a non-discrimination policy and supports equal opportunities regardless of background. We actively encourage female participation in tourism and continue to support local community initiatives.
