Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
We are committed to offering low-impact vacations, which benefit the countries and communities we visit, as well as our travelers and the natural environment. We believe in the transformative power of travel and aim to minimise our ecological footprint by selecting eco-friendly accommodations, encouraging waste reduction, and supporting sustainable transportation options where possible.

This walking tour maximises travel on foot through the compact historic streets of UNESCO-listed Ragusa Ibla, helping to minimise transport use during the week apart from the airport transfers between Catania and Ragusa. Time spent on foot in places such as the dramatic Cava Ispica gorge and the protected Vendicari Nature Reserve encourages a deeper appreciation of Sicily’s landscapes, wildlife, and heritage without intrusive or high-impact activities.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy in national parks, archaeological sites, monuments, and other sensitive areas like beaches and coastlines; these should be treated with the ultimate respect to maintain them for future generations. Our tour leaders are trained to promote this message to our customers during the vacation.

This tour offers a thoughtful and environmentally conscious way to experience south-eastern Sicily, focusing on slow travel, cultural immersion, and support for local communities. Rather than rushing between destinations, the itinerary is centerd on a small number of historic towns, with guided walking tours that allow visitors to explore at a relaxed pace while reducing environmental impact.

Ragusa is a great destination for low-impact travel, with its compact UNESCO-listed old town easily explored on foot, reducing the need for transport. The family-run Hotel Il Barocco, located in quiet Ragusa Ibla near the Duomo di San Giorgio, offers a smaller-scale stay and uses local Sicilian produce at breakfast. Vegetarian-friendly breakfast options are available, while vegan options are not specifically confirmed and may need to be requested in advance.

LOCAL ECONOMY
We provide ample opportunities to explore the local area on foot, where you can shop for local wares and crafts and immerse yourselves in the destination's rich cultural heritage. To enhance your experience, your tour leader will be joined by a knowledgeable, well-qualified local guide for the duration of the trip, who will provide authentic insight into the UNESCO-listed Baroque towns rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake.

This vacation actively celebrates Sicily’s cultural traditions, crafts, and gastronomy, helping preserve the region's unique identity while contributing directly to the local economy. Staying in a locally run three-star Hotel Il Barocco in picturesque Ragusa also helps keep tourism income within the region, benefitting independent businesses and local employment. Guided visits to the historic Antica Dolceria Bonajuto chocolate kitchens showcase traditional Sicilian craftsmanship and support long-established family businesses.

Opportunities to sample regional specialties, dine in local restaurants, and explore smaller towns such as Scicli and Punta Secca ensure tourism spending reaches communities beyond the major tourist centers. By combining heritage conservation, nature experiences, and locally based tourism, this tour offers a lower-impact and more sustainable way to discover this beautiful destination.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY
We are committed to responsible and sustainable travel practices that support both the local environment and surrounding communities. By selecting environmentally conscious accommodation, encouraging reduced waste, and prioritising sustainable transport where possible, we aim to minimise our footprint. Through respectful engagement and conscious travel choices, we strive to protect natural landscapes while delivering enriching and memorable experiences.
