Vacation information
Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modelled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. Those with a two-week vacation, a small group tour will save valuable planning time.
Reviews
1 Reviews of Turkey food vacation
4 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 26 May 2024 by Jane Deerson
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
Cooking class and Cappadoccia.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Good introduction to Turkey with an excellent guide.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Benefited cafes and restaurants. Good having water available on the bus as reduced plastic bottle waste. Should have had the same in the Phellos hotel in Kas.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
No one enjoyed the second long bus trip. If it could be broken up at somewhere interesting and pretty for an overnight would have been better.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Carbon ReductionWe have cut the driving time on this trip from 20 hours to just 4. Instead of a marathon coach tour encompassing the historic sites of Ephesus, Pamukkale and Hierapolis; we’ve slowed the itinerary right down and now focus on two key iconic destinations in their own right; Istanbul for 4 days and the Cappadocia region for 3 days. We link the two by using the high speed train; this has dramatically reduced our carbon footprint.
In Istanbul we will use public transport including buses, trams and trains to get around. Not only is this a much more enjoyable way of experiencing this great city, it is also better for the environment as well.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.
Environment and Wildlife
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
People
Local EconomyWe encourage the giving of fair tips to tour leaders and other support staff, which helps income from tourism get directly into the hands of the workers. All income is fully declared and taxed, with no cash payments, helping to pay for local state services.
All of the food experiences on this trip (the tour is packed with them) are all using local restaurants - in many cases we will be sampling street food, so we are directly contributing to the local economy.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travelers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
One of the key focuses on this trip is to discover, learn about and most importantly sample the wonderful local cuisine. We visit street food sellers in Istanbul which is great for mixing with, and supporting, the local community. They are also superb spots for lunch with small cafes and restaurants offering dishes made from the fresh produce of the market.
We use a local agency who are dedicated experts in sustainable travel, pioneers in the field of flight-free tour planning. Our local agency is a equal opportunities employer who has a high ratio of female partners and employees, and subsidises employee travel when done on foot, bike or on public transport.
We believe that diversity is to be celebrated and as a Certified B Corp we're committed to championing equity and inclusion throughout our entire supply chain. We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
