CARBON REDUCTION

This vacation is completely accessible using public transport. Granada has a very good integrated public transport system (trams/buses/metro/dedicated cycle routes), making it easy to move around leaving a minimal carbon footprint. The accommodation is strategically located close to a city bus route yet within the Natural Park of the Sierra de Huetor, so walking routes begin at the front door.

Other activities are eco-friendly/low impact (segway routes, walking and cultural tours).

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Roof-mounted solar panels are used for generating domestic hot water. Heat pumps are deployed for heating and cooling each apartment and are controllable independently. Only energy-efficient LED light bulbs are used and every bathroom has shower facilities rather than baths. To further encourage sensible use of water; all the toilets have dual flush mechanisms. Card readers rather than keys ensure there is no unnecessary use of electricity when rooms are not in use. Central heating and Air conditioning unites automatically switch off when windows are opened trough a modern energy saving domotic sistema. Remote control via Wifi prevents excessive use of heating and cooling systems and enables desactivation in extreme cases.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Despite its proximity to Granada, the traditional village of Viznar is subject to the same problems as many rural towns in the interior, which are increasingly underpopulated due to falling birth rates and the migration of young people to the cities and coastal areas. Tourism is a relatively new industry in Granada´s satellite villages, bringing new money into the local economy and helping to create work; we ourselves employ a local lady as a on the spot manager.
The vacation package includes dinner or lunch at a local restaurant serving typical traditional food, a few steps from the accommodation, bringing visitors into contact with genuine local gastronomy. Guests are further encouraged to patronise local businesses, sites of touristic interest and cultural events via the extensive information and recommendations contained in our proprietary App. We used our local knowledge and language skills to develop this product, which we put at our guest´s disposal for free. Mantainance of all the facilities is done through small local companies (general maintenance, domotic, plumber, electritian, cleaning, laundry).
