TAMÀNA prioritizes locally owned lodgings with low energy consumption and encourages partners to adopt energy-efficient practices, such as limiting generator use and optimizing natural ventilation.

The itinerary includes up to 6 days of walking in national parks and reserves.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available but are strictly limited. Meals often include rice, seasonal vegetables, and tropical fruits sourced locally. Approximately 70% of food is locally sourced and seasonal, including rice, vegetables, fruits, and seafood. TAMÀNA prioritizes accommodations that source from local markets and producers and lodges are advised to compost organic waste and not serving endangered species in their Menu.

ENVIRONEMNT AND WILDLIFE

We select accommodations based on their proximity to nature and their efforts to minimize environmental impact. Accommodations used on this itinerary are not plastic-free, but several have adopted plastic-reduction practices such as filtered water stations, reusable containers, and staff awareness. TAMÀNA encourages its partners to reduce single-use plastics where feasible, while acknowledging current limitations in local supply chains. Many lodges maintain gardens or green spaces that contribute to local biodiversity. TAMÀNA encourages partners to support habitat restoration and collaborate with conservation initiatives when possible.

Entrance fees (around 55 000 MGA per pax each) are paid to several protected areas, including:

o Iharana Bush Camp

The trip contributes to nature recovery and rewilding efforts in the following ways:
o Voimma Community Reserve and Analamazoatra (Andasibe-Mantadia National
Park) — supporting rainforest conservation and community-led protection of the Indri Indri.
o Palmarium Reserve & Aye-Aye Island — privately managed efforts to protect endangered lemurs and preserve lakeside forest ecosystems.
o Amber Mountain National Park — a biodiversity hotspot with crater lakes and endemic flora and fauna.
o Ankarana National Park — known for its Tsingy limestone formations and dry forest habitat.
o Iharana Bush Camp — while not a formal protected area, the camp’s design and activities promote low-impact interaction with nature and support local
conservation awareness.
Local guides are employed in all natural areas. Many are trained in biodiversity interpretation and contribute to ecological monitoring through their field knowledge.

TAMÀNA does not actively promote LGBTQ+ messaging, as it is not widely recognized within Malagasy cultural norms. However, the trip is designed to be respectful and inclusive of all travelers. Staff are trained to ensure a safe and welcoming environment, and discrimination is not tolerated.

The itinerary includes moderate physical activity, such as walking in national parks and boat transfers. While some areas may be challenging due to terrain and infrastructure, TAMÀNA offers tailored support where possible, including vehicle access and human assistance. However, the trip is not fully accessible for travelers with significant mobility limitations.
