Travel guides
Sea kayaking vacations are some of the most popular trips on Responsible Travel, and it's not just because they make for great adventures.
Our Croatia travel guide has tips on culture, food and shopping, plus what we rate (and what we don't).
Reviews
1 Reviews of Croatia sea kayaking vacation, islands & parks
4 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 23 Jun 2016 by Jacky Hanafin
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
The stunning scenery, you quickly run out of adjectives.
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
The second kayaking day on this trip is very long so I wouldn't recommend it for younger travelers. My 17 year old son found it a bit too long to sustain his interest. I loved it though.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I hope that by visiting and staying in local B&bs and eating in the restaurants and shopping locally we helped support their continued success.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
4/5. There were some organisational issues which meant our last day of kayaking didn't happen but we were given an immediate refund of that portion of the trip.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Environmental responsibilityAll of our guides are aware of their surrounding and they are constantly providing the travelers with suggestions of how to minimize potential negative impacts to the environment and marine ecosystems; to preserve water while showering, always clean the beach after themselves and use less plastic products by carrying a reusable water bottles, store food in non disposable containers.
Islands have their waste management. Guests are advised to separate their waste at the accommodation and never throw anything overboard while kayaking.
We support the slogan: Help Us Keep the Adriatic Clean. If we find plastic objects in the sea while kayaking we collect them and proceed for recycling.
We keep our groups very small (with maximum 8 participants) thus, any impact on the environment is minimized.
Our guides emphasize on the importance of leaving the environment as it is. We observe marine life but we do not disturb it.
Our kayaks are made of recyclable plastic. They do not cause any form of air or water pollution and they do not produce noise that could be disturbing for marine life.
We are economic in use of water and electricity by using public transport; regular ferry lines when crossing to the islands and public buses. We use rain water to rinse off all of our equipment.
Family guest houses where our guests are accommodated are recycling, using compost, growing their own fruit and vegetables and using rain water for watering the plants.
We also include the entrance fee to the National Park Mljet and thus support financing of maintenance of the National Park.
In our tour packages we include the tourist tax which is collected by the local community and is used for financing the local projects
People
Economic responsibilityWe direct our travelers to local private accommodation providers. Overnight in private accommodation enhances the visitor's experience, since they get an opportunity to be welcomed by a local host and thus get better insight in everyday life of local people on Croatian islands. Also, in this way our travelers are contributing to the local economy.
While kayaking we stop for lunch in local restaurants. Thus the guests have an opportunity to taste some of the typical specialties of the region and at the same time help local economy. Food in the local restaurants that we visit during our sea kayaking trips is produced organically where possible. Those are family owned restaurants that are supplied with fresh fish from local fishermen and vegetables from local farmers.
For our one-day trips we provide catering from a local restaurant.
Social responsibility
We closely cooperate with local cultural institutions and we point our visitors towards local cultural festivals (Dubrovnik Summer Festival) and similar manifestations.
We suggest to our travelers visits to historically, culturally and environmentally important sights (Old Town of Dubrovnik, Renaissance villas on the island of Sipan, Nature Park Lokrum).
We volunteer with our services in local welfare projects by donating to organisations that take care of children with special needs such as “Palcic gore”, “Djeca leptiri” , center for mentally challenged children.
