1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
We've brought back many good memories, but the standout is the day's hike from Benaojan to Villaluenga, crossing varied and beautiful scenery with wonderful views. We stopped in the lush Libar valley for our picnic lunch, sitting among wild flowers and watching birds flit about. In late April - early May the weather can be unpredictable - we did have some rain - but who cares when you've got the flowers, butterflies, birds and birdsong?
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Use the map as well as the written directions. Have a meal at the Casa de la Piedra in Grazalema - best food of the vacation!
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
It must have benefited local people in that all but one of the hotels, restaurants and bars we used seemed to be run/owned by Spaniards.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
We enjoyed it very much and would consider returning to the area. We would certainly use our tour operator again; when our flight from the UK was cancelled due to fog, forcing us to postpone the vacation by a fortnight, top man Dan Shaffrey swiftly managed to reschedule the entire vacation and at no extra cost.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

During your self guided walking vacation, all the transport we recommend is the local bus. This is the life blood of Grazalema, connecting the villages and schools. We use this as it is sustainable in keeping the local communities connected and it employs local people to work on the routes, as well as being environmentally the best way to Travel in the area.We also give train and bus timetables from Malaga to Ronda so people can get themselves to Ronda before being met and brought to the first hotel on the self guided itinerary. The taxi service we offer to the first hotel employs a local English speaking person to drive to Malaga and meet you, giving you the chance to talk to local people and find out about the area you will be hiking in.
The taxi we provide from Grazalema to Ronda is another local person who often makes sure the trip is used both ways i.e. picking people up from Ronda or bringing more than one group at a time. Making the journey have as little impact on the environment as possible.
For some of the walks in Grazalema you need a permit and we have good relations with the local National Park authorities with whom we get the permits. These permits do not cost anything but time, but we always give a donation to the reserve in Grazalema to keep the area as protected and as well run as it is now.

With all our self guided walking vacations we send out a small concise Spanish language guide by email. We hope this will help our guests to interact with the local community. Helping the local community and the guests to enjoy the same environment. As the simplest hello can bring a smile to anyone's face. The villages this itinerary passes through benefit greatly with the tourism we provide. Using only family run hotels that employ local people, this helps the local community from local food producers to shops to the local transport we employ.
