1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The beautiful geography.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Villages are more developed than I thought....mixed in with traditional. Homestays are like nice, humble hotel cabins, not in someone's actual home,

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I think it benefitted local people economically, but the amount of plastic waste produced by tourism (water bottles esp) is very visible in the landscape!

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Very good.

Dear Tresca,
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on your Mai Chau & Pu Luong Hidden Trails trip.
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and had an overall very good experience. This region is indeed known for its stunning natural scenery, and we are glad it left a strong impression.
We also truly appreciate your honest comments regarding the villages and homestay experience. You are absolutely right that many homestays today offer a more comfortable, guesthouse-style stay rather than a traditional stay in a local family home. We will continue to improve how we communicate this to ensure expectations are well aligned for future travelers.
Regarding your observation about plastic waste, thank you for highlighting this important issue. We fully share your concern and are working closely with our local partners to reduce single-use plastics, including encouraging refillable water bottles and promoting more sustainable practices. There is still progress to be made, and your feedback is very valuable in helping us move in the right direction.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful review, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you on another journey in the future.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Our trekking hidden trails trip will have you experience the most beautiful parts of Vietnam’s northern mountains. Along the way you will see that the route is free from pollution and rubbish. The reason for this is because for every visit we encourage our customers to reduce on their garbage. Not only that, we instruct them to keep it and throwing it away later in trash bins. Furthermore, we provide our customers with trekking equipment which can be re-used for other trips.
Throughout the journey you will see many amazing views of terraces and villages surrounding the nature reserve. The route is off the beaten track and far away from many traffic. At the Hieu village we have an Eco lodge which is designed by the use of local materials resulting in having beds and roofs made out of bamboo. This Eco lodge does not harm our environment, but benefit it as the focus is on nature. Remarkably, the suppliers we are working together with are locals from that area. When you are inside the lodge and take a look at the lamps – they are made by a local bamboo master with the reuse of bamboos. The reason for this is to provide you with a real experience. Additionally, meals are cooked in such a way to make it taste naturally.

People

One of our first priorities was local involvement by having an Eco lodge. By hiring the locals, we were able to create job opportunities for them. Moreover, a strong bond is created from the beginning between the lodge and locals. This was also an opportunity to teach our employees about the importance of sustainability. To have a change in local behavior and a positive impact for the whole area, we try to spread this knowledge as much as possible. Almost all of our employees are locals from the neighborhood. The local community and the investors worked hard together to provide you an authentic Eco lodge.
On the first day of your trip you are going to the Poom Coom village in Mai Chau where we will take a short walk to visit the ethnic Thai people. In the early mornings you are able to witness a lot of local activities in Pu Luong. Next to this, you will discover more of Pu Luong’s beautiful terraces, valleys and villages. Eventually you will trek through more places to arrive at Hieu village, where you are free to walk around and interact with locals or visit the waterfall nearby.
