Vacation information

Small group tour, ideal for solos & couples:
Small group travel is not large group travel scaled down. It is modeled on independent travel – but with the advantage of a group leader to take care of the itinerary, accommodation and tickets, and dealing with the language. It’s easy to tick off the big sights independently – but finding those one-off experiences, local festivals, traveling markets and secret viewpoints is almost impossible for someone without the insider knowledge gained from years in the field. For those with limited time, a small group tour will save valuable time in planning, and on vacation.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

First day of teaching and getting to know the other volunteers

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Ask questions and get information from volunteers that have been there longer than you

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I'm hoping the children benefited from hearing English from a native speaker and my experience and teaching strategies. The local community benefited from me spending money including shops and the family that started the school.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

Overall my vacation was great, it was a good balance of living and teaching with the locals then being a tourist on the weekend and visiting Siem Reap.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Each traveler on this trip is given a gift of a Responsible Traveler cloth bag made by disadvantaged children from Central Vietnam. This bag is designed to combat the increasingly prevalent problem of plastic bag pollution disrupting the various marine and land habitats of Vietnam.

As a company we aim to contribute to the environmental preservation of the destinations we visit and to reduce any negative impacts our operations may have. This translates to actions such as using local transport where safe to do so in order to reduce emissions, observing all national and marine park visitor rules and operating a ‘take in, take back out’ waste management system, to name but a few examples. Through our inhouse foundation we also invest money into environmental initiatives that benefit the planet, including restoring kelp forests to help reverse the effects of global warming and protecting endangered species such as sea turtles and elephants.

People

Your group leader and the local guides we use along the way will help to break down barriers in your interactions with local people. In addition, we travel by some local transport to facilitate and encourage interaction with the local population. In the Mekong Delta, we visit a local garden restaurant, in the heart of the Delta, where you can sample some of the regional specialities such as the famous elephant ear fish. We board small rowing boats, sampans, and paddle through the many mangrove tributaries to visit small villages and meet with the friendly locals.

Your leader will explain the range of projects we support in Vietnam, and in Hanoi, we visit one of these projects - KOTO, a restaurant dedicated to training street kids and disadvantaged youth in skills for the hospitality industry. At the end of our journey, travelers may donate any unwanted clothing, medicine and bandages, which are distributed to appropriate local charities.
