Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION The motor yacht used on this trip was designed to have a minimal carbon footprint. As an example, all of the vessel’s basic functions such as cooking, water supply for showers and toilets, refrigeration, ice-making and illumination can all be carried out using renewable solar energy, without the need to have diesel generators constantly running. Cruise vacations such as this require regular supplies of food – wherever possible, efforts are made to source products direct from local farmers in markets. Using locally produced foods is one of the most effective ways to cut the carbon footprint of a vacation. ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE The vessel’s field team are naturalists and woodsmen, trained in responsible tourism and minimising the impact of your visit on ecosystems – particularly important in such a fragile environment as the Amazon. They ensure that any wildlife is approached from a safe distance and without causing undue stress to the animals.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY Cruise staff are careful to responsibly engage with local people such as villagers. In practise, this means varying the places visited to ensure that they are not unduly disrupted by tourism, and that people do not become financially dependent on tourist to the detriment of traditional ways of life. It also means that when materials are donated, these are chosen to benefit a community as a whole rather than individuals, such as by providing writing materials for village schools, or diesel fuel for communal generators. EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY Rather than hiring parttime freelance guides, all cruise staff are given long term contracts. That means comprehensive healthcare, paid vacation time, and a range of other benefits. Most crew members have grown up in rainforest communities where employment opportunities can be rare, so this cruise vacation has a direct financial benefit to crew and their dependents.
