Departure information

Everything is tweak-able, giving you the freedom to build a unique and personal trip for your chosen date. Upgrade your accommodation for all - or just part - of your trip, slow down the pace with few extra nights here and there or add a few more active adventures along the way.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your vacation will help support conservation and local people.

In Borneo we encourage our guests to respect the wildlife in each destination. All guides are trained and qualified, and we visit only National Parks and rehabilitation centers where the animals are supported or left on their own.

Before travel, our clients receive a Know Before You Go pack which states to keep water use at a minimum as usable water is a rare commodity.

The local suppliers we use in Borneo support local Iban communities in the area and are currently supporting the rebuild of a longhouse which recently burnt down in the fire. They are passionate about supporting the local environment and community and only choose guides who share their same values.

In our Brighton office we have a strict recycling system, where we are recycling nearly 80% of our overall waste. All our paper is then bought from our recycling company to complete the circle.

When you visit the Kubah National Park you will pay an entrance fee to the National Park which helps preserve the environment and the wildlife within it.

We encourage the kayaking trip which is nice and easy going with the kids as this is a low impact way to travel and will have minimal affect on the environment.

The Impacts of this Trip

During this trip you will be injecting money straight into the local community as our local partners are locally run and owned and employ local guides within the area.

We have first hand experience in the city of Kuching and know plenty of local restaurants and cafes which we encourage our guests to support. We know where the best places are for the kids to enjoy too with plenty of family friendly trips around. Trips to the National Park help support the up keep, the protection of wildlife, and the local guides.

All of our guides and local partners are provided with a fair wage and secure job. We love to send them on feedback from clients to encourage their good work and work with them, as a team to provide great service.

When you go on the kayaking trip you and the family have a chance to interact with the local Iban community as you will stop here for lunch. You can exchange cultures and learn new things while learning about a completely different way of life. If you feel like you would like to bring gifts, our travel specialists can recommend the best gifts to bring.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?

The best part of our vacation was the time we spent in Sarawak, Borneo. Kuching is a peaceful and beautiful city situated on a river. The company there looked after us and helped us discover the wonderful wildlife of Borneo. Traveling in Maylasia mainland was a bit hit and miss,an example being was a journey which should have taken 6 hours took 14 hours with us arriving on a beach at 8:30 at night with not a clue where our accomodation was.

2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?

Sarawak is very laid back and easy. You really don't need a 3rd party travel agent as the locals are helpful and you can book through the hotels once you have arrived.

3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, in Sarawak all our guides were from local tribes and seemed very proud of their country. Conservation unfortunately in mainland Malaysia does seem to
be a priority.

4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?

It was a busy vacation with plenty to see and do. There were some great highlights such as the frog hunting in Sarawak but also some really frustrating parts such as landing in Perhentian Island in the dark after traveling all day.

Thank you so much for your comments Nicole, we're delighted that on the whole you had a really memorable family vacation to Borneo. We're so pleased that your time on the 'Sarawak with the Family' itinerary went very well and our local partners and guides looked after you well and helped you discover the wonderful wildlife of Borneo!

For your additional time in mainland Malaysia, we're sorry to hear about your experience for your transfer to the island as this isn't what we would expect, as discussed on your return we are currently looking into this further to understand why this happened and to prevent it
from happening again in the future. Best wishes, Fiona
