CARBON REDUCTION

Across this tour, we have made efforts to reduce carbon intensive transport methods where feasible. We utilise a single vehicle for the group instead of costlier multiple vehicles, and try to choose vehicle models with better fuel economy which is more possible by limiting group numbers to a maximum of 12. Additionally, we have organised the tour to negate any need for domestic flights, so all transport within Sri Lanka remains on the ground.

In terms of diet, as long as we have notice ahead of time (and we always ask), we can cater for travelers with plant-based diets without issue.

ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE

Unsurprisingly, the environment and wildlife of Sri Lanka are part of its appeal, and thus they are a key part of this trip as well. The key national parks which feature here are Minneriya, Horton Plains, and Yala; each of which offer something different. Within each park, we ensure that all of our safaris follow proper guidelines and maintain respectful distances from wildlife as protocol.

On a broader level, we work to minimise the plastic pollution from single-use water bottles that group travel can easily incur. In our partnership with Water 2 Go, we provide water filtration bottles to all UK-based clients who only need to pay £6 for postage to receive a bottle as part of their booking. We also only provide these to clients who opt-in and request one during the booking process, which limits the environmental costs of postage and duplicated waste from sending bottles to those who do not want or will not use one. While bottled water remains accessible, we strongly encourage all of our clients to bring a filtration bottle with them.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

Local communities are at the heart of travel, and we design our trips to increase the benefits that they receive from our trips wherever possible. Importantly, we utilise local guides and drivers for all of our groups as the standard and do not employ foreign guides. In terms of accommodation, we do not use any international chain hotels, and seek out properties which are at least owned by people within the country, and preferably by those in the direct local community.

This trip also includes specific visits and experiences with locals including a Sri Lankan curry tutorial in Kandy with a fantastic local woman in her home, as well as demonstrations on curd-making and ceramics in the town of Tissamaharama. Each of these visits support the locals who host our travelers, and we ensure that they are paid fairly for their work.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY, & DIVERSITY

All of our guides, drivers, and handlers are people from Sri Lanka, and many of them are working in and around their local communities. We also ensure that all are paid fairly and seek to employ female guides for our groups as well. Within our team here in the UK, we are a small but diverse team who support a diverse and equal-opportunity environment.
