Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We are committed to offering low impact vacations which benefits the countries and communities we visit, as well as our travelers. As most of the time on our tours is spent exploring on foot, it is important that our staff, local partners and customers are aware of the delicate balance which exists in the places we visit. In Greece, it is safe to drink water directly from the tap however, for customers keen to avoid buying single use plastic bottles, we offer customers the chance to purchase a discounted filter Water-To-Go bottle which combines three different technologies to remove over 99.9% of all microbiological contaminants in water.
We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy in the national parks, archaeological sites, monuments and other sensitive areas; these should be treated with the ultimate respect to maintain them for future generations. Our tour leaders are trained to promote this message to our customers during the vacation.
Lunchtime stops can be picnics and we suggest that our group members bring picnic supplies such as plastic boxes, cutlery etc with them to save using one time use plastic when buying from local supermarkets and markets.
This is a multi-center walking & sightseeing vacation, and we use private-hire vehicles to travel between centers, but where-ever else possible we travel on foot and use local transport in resort.
People
We have been staying at many of the hotels on this vacation for years and most are family owned and operated. Family members work in the hotels and we have worked with multi-generations. Although smaller properties, we encourage them to work in an environmental way where possible with recycling and reduced laundry and such like.In keeping with our company ethos of helping communities, we eat out every evening at local restaurants, not only for the experience of traditional home-cooked food, but also to ensure that the local community benefits from our groups visiting the area. We often stop at local markets for lunch provisions and work with local guides, from the area, who are knowledgeable and add much more an experience to the vacation.
Any private-hire transport we need to use on this vacation is arranged with a locally based company with drivers from the region to help boost economic benefit in the area.
