Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
This trek is the most known trek in the world. And if we do not take actions to keep it clean it will become one of the dirtiest treks in the world. We always promote responsible and sustainable travel. We choose our places to stay very carefully and make sure we share the same ideas about the environment. When you see wild animals please don't try to attract their attention by sounds or food. You never know what goes on their minds. Do not approach yaks and do not come close to take a selfie. Of course, they are very peaceful creatures, but if they feel any danger they might protect themselves by attacking you. Always be on a safe side and give them their way.
Solar panels are the only source of energy in the Himalayas.
Be respectful in the mountains and don't shout out to hear the echo. You might scare rare animals and birds.
Drink water from the springs. All our guides know the main stops where you can refill your bottle for free. Do not bring any plastic with you - we are creating a plastic-free zone and cleaning the waters from it. After all, our waters are the cleanest waters and we are 2nd country in the world for water capacity.
People
All our guides and porters we employ are locals who were born and grew up in this region. We train them every year and support their families even when it's not a high season. In this area, we established a scholarship program for children and an annual lunch program in school for families who cannot afford to send their children to study. Even the trek is popular, but if you take only a few steps away from the trail you'll see that area is not developed and very remote.
We are going to stay in hotels, tea houses and lodges that are locally owned. All the money you spend is going to benefit them during the year as this region has only 2 seasons when tourist come to visit. Tourism is the main field that brings income.
The best choice is to consume locally grown food as well in order to support farmers and it is only organic. We always encourage everyone to go vegetarian during the trek as it is easier to digest at high altitude. We strongly recommend avoiding alcohol as it never helped anyone and only will complicate your health condition.
Lots of visitors come to this trekking region to enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas. We really recommend to connect with locals by having a talk, help them to practice their speaking skills, teach them a few new words and support projects on our way.
