Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

The environment is what makes your experience, and maintenance of this will have a long-term positive impact on Sri Lanka. We travel in groups no larger than 18 people, allowing us to use a small bus which is much more suitable for the roads in Sri Lanka. We also use the train to travel between Hikkaduwa and Colombo further reducing our carbon footprint.

Our local leaders provide glass water bottles as well as encourage refilling and reusing these and other bottles with the large water container which is in the back of your vehicle, to discourage buying of single-use plastic water bottles.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

People

The food in Sri Lanka remains exceptionally local, with fresh organic vegetables whilst in the central highlands and beautiful fresh seafood along the coast. Visiting small, independent and locally-owned restaurants is an integral part of our itinerary, and this means money goes into the local economy and community. In addition, this provides an authentic Sri Lankan meal experience, and make the most of the wonderful food Sri Lanka has to offer.

The staff which make up our local partner is made up of only Sri Lankans who know their country incredibly well. In addition to this, the hotels we stay in are also staffed by at least 70% locals. This provides training within the tourism industry as well as additional languages, in order to keep jobs within the community.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
