CARBON REDUCTION

As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

This cycling vacation prioritizes a low-impact approach on the environment. The trip itinerary revolves around cycling, significantly reducing the need for motorized transport within the region.

The focus on local support extends to the food scene. Breakfasts feature local produce, reflecting our commitment to incorporating seasonal and regional flavours.

Our local agent is dedicated to environmental sustainability by separating and recycling garbage in the office and on our trips. They reuse rainwater from roofs for gardening and treat wastewater in an artificial wetland. Additionally, they actively contribute to research projects on whale sharks and coral reefs in Puerto Morelos. They also work with marine recreation providers to adopt voluntary standards that protect the reef. Recently, our local supplier joined an ambitious project to plant 1,000 million trees in the Yucatan Peninsula through donations to the Plant for the Planet initiative.

ENVIRONMNET & WILDLIFE

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.

We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.

Our local Tour Leaders and in-country partner actively encourage the use of their 20-litre water container which is refilled throughout the trip. It is kept in the back of the support vehicle while cycling and helps to eliminate single-use plastic bottles, as well as other forms of single-use plastic for picnics and within their own office. They provide reusable dishes and containers, and even volunteer in their local "reciclaton" programme which separates waste for recycling. As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We're members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it's important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.

Our local agent collaborates with various NGOs, including the Mexican Association of Adventure Travel and Ecotourism, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, Conservation International, Travel Foundation, Amigos de Sian Kaan, The Coral Reef Alliance, and more. Together, we run unique training programs focused on ecotourism, developing best practices, establishing codes of ethics, and taking significant steps toward sustainable tourism.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travelers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.

Our local agent works directly with many Mayan communities, building fair and mutually beneficial business relationships. They collaborate with communities like Siankaan, Ek Balam, Jose Maria Morelos, Nuevo Durango, Kantemoh, and many more. Recently, they've connected groups wanting to support local communities with projects that boost both their quality of life and income. For example, helping a Maya community ramp up their honey production from 10 liters a year to 1,000 liters. We also support a variety of other local businesses such as bars and cantinas, hotels and transport companies, ensuring our visit benefits a wide range of people.
