CARBON REDUCTION

While we are currently exploring the implementation of renewable energy solutions, including future plans for solar panel installation, we actively reduce our carbon footprint through a variety of operational measures. These include a smart room management system that automatically switches off electricity when
rooms are unoccupied, as well as motion sensors in corridors and public areas to minimise unnecessary energy consumption. In addition, we have implemented a paperless check-in process using tablets, and replaced printed in-room signage with digital light indicators, significantly reducing paper waste.

All restaurants are well equipped here to cater for all food requirements, including vegetarian and vegan meals. We try and use as many restaurants with locally sourced food but we also know that in Malta we have to import as we are too small to produce all the food we need in the country. We always offer to guests to take any food back with them if they can use for lunch or to nibble on another day.

We do a lot of walking inside the cities. We also use shared transport (mini bus and ferry).

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We are committed to minimising our environmental impact through practical and measurable initiatives.

To reduce waste, we use refillable dispensers for bathroom amenities instead of single-use plastics, and all additional guest items are provided in eco-friendly packaging. Recycling is encouraged throughout the property, with designated recycling bins in all rooms and public areas, and plastic bottles are collected locally in Malta for proper recycling.

Water conservation is supported through a reverse osmosis system and by encouraging guests to reuse towels, helping to reduce unnecessary water and energy consumption.

We are proud to hold GSTC certification, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement in our environmental practices.

We actively support biodiversity within our property through thoughtfully designed green spaces, including blossoming plants and rooftop greenery, which contribute to a healthier environment and support pollinators such as bees. Beyond the hotel, we participate in local environmental initiatives, including beach clean-up activities in collaboration with the Malta National Aquarium, reinforcing our commitment to protecting the surrounding natural environment.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

The accommodation is partially locally owned, and we are committed to supporting the local economy through both our operations and partnerships.

We employ a diverse team of local and international staff, fostering an inclusive environment while contributing to local employment. We also collaborate with local suppliers and service providers wherever possible.

Additionally, we actively promote local artisans by showcasing and upselling their products within the hotel, giving guests the opportunity to experience authentic local craftsmanship while supporting the community.

In our programme we employ local guides, we partner with local suppliers for dinners, lunches, transport etc and we do visit local craft center and village markets. We visit the Marsaxlokk market, we eat pastizzi from the village square from a local café, we had local bread, we bought sfineg for the group from the local street vendor and we organised local dinners in local restaurants not known by tourists in small villages.

EMPLOYMENT, DIVERSITY and INCLUSIVITY

Malta was one of the first LGBTQ friendly place in Europe.

This trip is not good for people with mobility, vision or cognitive issues as we need to walk from place to place and some are not as easy.
