CARBON REDUCTIONThe trip is a walking safari from the camp and guests walk out to different locations each day they spend on the safari.
The food that is provided is sourced from the camps vegetable gardens and the local market gardens in the area. Vegetarian and vegan options are available each day. The food offered is entirely grown or sourced locally throughout the year.
In terms of accommodation the camp uses solar panels for water heating and tanks for rainfall water storage. Water supplies are heated from solar powered facilities within the camp. Water is collected from rainfall and supplemented, when necessary, from county supplies. Waste is managed via septic tanks.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
Laikipia is a conservancy and as part of the obligations in that conservancy, are long term and ongoing programs to do with land management, conservation of wildlife habitats. This is done with with local indigenous communities and county government that are aimed at maintaining viable habitats. The employment of indigenous staff is part of the conservancy management policies the county government. These are negotiated and reviewed in line of government policies and the particular requirements of the conservancy.
Tourist fees to enter the Laikipia conservancy are paid to the local county government which fund specific programs as determined by the local community. A percentage of the annual license of the camp is paid to the County Government to fund the specific conservancy programs. Part of those funds are also used in training initiatives of indigenous staff. Expert guides are provided by the conservancy and each has earned their qualifications and accreditation by the county government.

LOCAL ECONOMYIn terms of accommodation there is 1 supplier that conducts our walking tours in the conservancy of Laikipia. The camp is locally owned and is a small camp of only 4 rooms.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
100% of the guides, customer service staff and chefs are all indigenous. And their training equips them for other roles in other camps across the country. Their accreditation is determined by the county government. Their salaries and wages are determined by the Department of Labour. The training provided is specific to their area of interest and hence accreditation enables them to be able to take advantage of other positions that become available
For people with limited mobility we offer alternatives. The camp is located next to water holes which wildlife use and hence the wildlife camp is in close proximity to the migratory habits of the wildlife. On occasions and dependent on the level of disability, 4 wheel drives may be supplemented to assist the wheel chair persons. Hearing impaired people are also assisted by guides accredited and fluent in 'signing'.
