Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

On this walking vacation we visit a variety of different protected environments in the Scottish North West Highlands and Skye, including the North West Highlands UNESCO Geopark and Britain’s oldest National Nature Reserve in Beinn Eighe that now forms part of the UNESCO Wester Ross Biosphere Reserve. Walking is arguably the greenest from of travel with no carbon footprint, and our hikes allow us to explore these beautiful protected environments with minimal impact on the natural world. Our Tour Leader will explain more about the marine and bird life that we can spot on this trip and well as the cultural history of the area and relevance to local life nowadays.

As part of our Responsible Travel policy, we advise customers to take reusable water bottles with them on tour. Our local leaders actively do not distribute single-use plastic water bottles. Tap water is fine to drink and we encourage customers to refill their bottles at the hotel each day and the Leader will explain other places where this is possible while out on visits.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

This three-center trip stays in a small, locally-run hotels and guesthouses in Ullapool, Gairloch and Sconser. This helps ensure that our trips benefits the economy directly where we stay. In addition to this we have chosen to offer the trip on a bed and breakfast basis on the majority of days so that, with the assistance of our local tour leader's knowledge, you can dine out in evenings and help support some of the many restaurants close by the hotel where typical local fare is served.

In fact, our local partner has been based in the region for over two decades and only uses independently-owned hotels, local drivers and tour leaders. Through our partnership you can be sure that financial benefit from this trip will be going directly into the local economy of the places in which you will travel.

The North West Highlands’ welcoming and friendly local culture is another undoubted highlight and along the way we strive to introduce our clients to local traditions, customs and experiences, maximising contact wherever possible as well as learning about the local history and how local life has changed through time up to the present day.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
