Reviews
1 Reviews of Sweden Somlandsleden trail walking vacation, self guided
5 out of 5 stars
Reviewed on 29 Jun 2022 by Angus Menzies
1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your vacation?
1. Walking in beautiful countryside near the Baltic coast and further inland
2. Staying at Marinans guesthouse at Navekvarn was excellent :Sandra's enthusiasm and helpfulness could not be bettered. She was invaluable. Thank you,
Sandra
2. What tips would you give other travelers booking this vacation?
Because much of the walking was away form shops, it would be a good idea to ensure provision for lunch. This might be something for them to
consider in addition to the provided evening meal.
Exposure to loud band music at night in the hotel prior to a three day hike did not seem a good idea.
3. Did you feel that your vacation benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes, purchases in the local restaurant and cafes was important. In particular Sandra's locally sourced food for the BBQ was much appreciated.
Walking along well marked trails (rather than cross country) was a good way to reduce environmental impact.
We would have been very happy to contribute to a conservation organisation to assist in maintenance of the reserves, but were not aware of a mechanism to
do this.
4. Finally, how would you rate your vacation overall?
Excellent, thoroughly enjoyable vacation,
Thank you
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) vacation so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your vacation to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
All our trips are about enjoying and experiencing the natural and cultural beauty of the region, in a respectful and considerate way. Our trips are only run with small groups, most often from two people to six people, to ensure that impact on the environment is a minimum at all times, and the most personal and rich experience can be had by all.Hiking puts little stress on the environment and allows you to appreciate the surroundings in an environmentally friendly way as you follow the established Sörmlandeden hiking trail through Sörmland.
We are a member of Naturturismföretagen (Swedish Ecotourism Association) which works towards an improved tourism which protects and takes responsibility for our delicate natural and cultural environment. Our company beliefs reflect this vision.
As our trips are self-guided, we make extra efforts to provide travelers with as much information about the local area as possible, including information about bird, animal and plantlife as well as historical and cultural information. This ensures that, even without a guide, we can inform travelers about the region. With additional knowledge, travelers can go one step further to protecting the environment.
This trip makes use of public transport where possible, for example, to access the hike to Tunaberg & Simonberget, and shares transfers with other group members where there is no public transport available. Electric cars are growing in popularity in Sweden and many taxi companies have invested in a fleet of electric cars. We always request the use of electric cars for private transfers.
We take responsibility of ensuring that rubbish is handled accordingly, both in the countryside and in the office, with a developed sorting system. Use of paper is spared with all marketing carried out online to avoid the production of own brochures. Travelers are encouraged to recycle as much literature as possible that they are provided with at the start of the trip.
People
We wholeheartedly support the local economy - our guests want to experience the genuine region in which they are traveling, and our aim is to let it be seen and enjoyed. This trip includes membership of the Sörmlandsleden association, which is run by volunteers who prepare and maintain the trail and the association is entirely dependent on membership and contributions. We believe it is paramount that those who have developed and look after this trail are rewarded with this financial contribution (in the form of membership).
Encounters with the locals is a fundamental aspect of our trips, and we therefore make all efforts to use suppliers from the area where possible. With this in mind we prefer to use accommodation that is smaller and more personal which allows an insight into the local community, including personal B&Bs such as Tuna B&B set in the hamlet of Tuna Kyrka and the locally run Nävekvarn Pensionat. Our aim is always to promote and support the local community.
We also aim for included meals to be provided by local suppliers, most often from the local B&B where you stay.
Our trips are designed so that travelers pass by natural as well as cultural sites en route, including local folklore museums such as Tunaberg, and information is provided about these sites. Travelers are encouraged to visit or take guided tours, and all opening times of sites, shops, facilities are indicated to allow the traveler the opportunity to maximise their visit.
Our trips would quite simply not be the same without the support of the local community.
